Prologue
A Chinese trawler trolling by the coastal waters off the Queen Charlotte Islands along the Pacific coast of British Colombia, Canada, slows as a gillnetter approaches the larger vessel. The Canadian registered boat ties up to the Trawler and starts offloading several fifty-five-gallon drums full of Fentanyl. Within minutes the ships’ part company as the trawler picks up speed to head to the destination port of Vancouver, Canada. The gillnetter makes its way over to the coast of British Colombia to a lone dock where a truck labeled “Home movers express” is waiting. Destination: the great lakes. The truck departs on a four-day trek across the country stopping at a port where it unloads its cargo to a ship that will take the drums to its destination: Detroit, Michigan.
Don Vitanza’s soldiers who were awaiting the shipment, hand over a duffel bag full of rubber banded bundles of U.S. dollars to the ships’ captain as his deck hands roll the barrels into the back of a semi-truck, and to its destination: Detroit.
The Chinese invasion begins….
Chapter 1: An alliance is formed
The processing plant is on the outskirts of the city of Detroit, a former building full of storage units of a company long gone. The original sign “STOR-MOR SAVE A LOT” sign was still on the outside wall facing the entrance to the fenced in complex. The upstairs section of the building is where the lunchroom and offices were once occupied by the workers that were employed here for decades. The downstairs storage units were converted into living quarters and a cafeteria to feed and house his soldiers and his “guests”. The place was a fortress with dogs and two-man patrols around the clock.
With the economic depression of the early seventies putting several companies out of business, some of the criminal organizations in the area bought up these properties for pennies on the dollar. Where the lunchroom once existed, a laboratory now stood, fully operational, converting the Fentanyl into compressed tablets that looked like OxyContin’s. Some of the Fentanyl was blended into other illegal narcotics: Cocaine, Methamphetamine, and Heroin. The packaging was done in another room where machines compressed and sealed the kilos and pills for non-detectable transport that would soon be shipped all over the country.
Don Vitanza was a boss from the Gulf Coast region of Mexico who came into power by eliminating those who stood in his way. Starting with coming to the United States as a small-time smuggler, and later, a distributor, he rose up in the ranks fast because of his ties to the largest Cartel on the entire gulf coast region. He had an unlimited supply of drugs, human trafficked victims, and a serious weapons contact out of Brazil. The number of people who worked for him was at least eighty that were on the Feds radar, but there were surely more than that. Detroit belonged to him, and anyone who questioned him disappeared.
Meet the Crew boss, Ortiz Consecho:
“Don Vitanza, good morning, Jefe’.” “Buenos diaz, Ortiz. Everything good here?” “Yes sir. The load was delivered late last night. We just completed the inventory check and it’s complete.” “Good. We have orders in for the blue Fentanyl pills to be shipped to Denver Colorado, and Boise Idaho. When can they be ready?” “We’re pressing pills right now, Jefe’, so I would say by tomorrow night we should have, oh, about two million of them pressed.” “Excellent. Denver’s good for five hundred thousand and Boise can take a quarter of a million. We need ten kilos heroin for Colorado, but only four kilos for Idaho. Their market is slow but growing.” “It will be ready, senior.” “Come with me, Ortiz. I want to talk to you alone…”
The Don walks outside with Ortiz to the main yard discussing the cameras and the only two guard shacks on site; both at each end of the yard covering the front and back entrances only. “Look, I met a man who was the security man for the Chicago Cartel. It is said he is the best in the business, so I will be bringing him up as a visitor to have him take a look at our operation and show us what we need to do to upgrade security here, ok? I want him to feel welcome. This guy and his associates are lethal, and we may need them now that we have the Chinese connection up and running.” “But sir, didn’t his boss get killed?” “He did, but it was not on him. If a boss doesn’t listen to his people, this is what can happen. No, I met this man and I want him on board. We’re lucky to have him, Ortiz, we’re “swimming in waters” we’ve never been in before.” “Okay. We’ll make him feel welcome.”
(Phone rings…..) “Senior Williams?” “Yes, who is this?” “A man you met before the New Years’ party last year. I couldn’t stay, remember?” “Yes, of course. How are you, Jefe’?” “I’m okay. I wondered if you were free in the next few days. I would love to have you come to Detroit for a visit? Would this be possible?” “I can arrange that, senior. Raphael and Manny are both with me on something I am working on. Do I have your permission to bring them? You met them at the Don’s estate.” “Of course. I remember them and yes, please bring them. They should know my “associados” if we decide to work together
“I’ll text you my arrival information…. Click).
Detroit International airport DTT McNamara Terminal
As we exit the passenger pickup terminal, I see the all too familiar Black SUVs (2 of them) waiting for us across the lanes at the temporary parking lot. A man signals us to come to him, and two other soldiers step out to meet us and grab our bags. “Senior Williams? I’m, Ortiz, Don Vitrano’s number one.” (Shaking hands) “I remember you from Chicago. How’s the Don?” “He’s good. Anxious to see you, sir. Let’s get going.”
Yang Jun (Chinese mob boss) Jiangsu Province, China
(Phone ringing…) “Don Vitrano?” “Yes. Who is this?” “Yang Jun, sir. I am calling to see how everything went. This phone is encrypted so you can speak. Did you receive the package?” “We did, and everything is in order. Your banker should have the “paperwork” I sent.” “Yes. It’s all in order. I am looking forward to a prosperous relationship. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know…. Click…”
“Don Vitrano. It’s good to see you. I’m glad you didn’t stay for the party after all. We were coming across the lake when we saw the flames. As we got close to the shore the police thought we were nosey neighbors and ordered us out of the area. Thirty minutes earlier and we would have been a part of the casualty list.” “Have you heard anything?” “Yes. We have learned he had a problem with a Don in Michoacan, and we suspect that it was that “family” who struck back, killing two Don’s and several others.”
“I heard. My wife’s family is a powerful gulf coast cartel family. The word came up to me last week. I’m glad you were cleared of any suspicion.” “Hmmm, I was unaware that I was under any possible suspicion at all.” “Well, as you know senior Williams, everyone is suspect in this life until we are cleared. Now, I would like to discuss some business with you.” “I’m all ears…”
“I have recently formed an alliance with an overseas company that has opened a very large door for us. If everything goes well, we may turn into a multi-billionaire company in a short period of time. I will be needing someone to establish my security measures ensuring not just my personal safety, but to establish my trade routes, safe houses, where we can monitor and control our new business from the time we take possession, until it reaches our distributors.”
“Sir, that shouldn’t be a problem. Right now, I’d like to meet with you and your crew bosses and take the next day or two and inspect your sites here in Detroit. I need to sweep for electrical listening devices and visual technology that you may be unaware of. I have a team out of Mexico that I can fly in at a moment’s notice, with diplomatic protection, so they can carry their own weapons and tech gear.” “Diplomatic? How the he** can you pull that off?” “Simple. I have resources in the CIA.”
….. “I had no idea….” “It’s not something I share with too many people, sir. Look, if we are going to work together you need to know that by bringing me in you have opened doors you were not aware of that are out there in our business world. Shall I go on?” “Yes, please.” “The CIA works with other Dons throughout the world, Don Vitanza. By me introducing you into that circle it will elevate your status to some of the most powerful families in all of Mexico, and South America. Your fiend in China would understand this, as I’m positive he has Government ties in his own country. I assure you he will think twice about playing games with you once he finds out who you know.”
“I had no idea…” “No. You didn’t, Don Vitanz
