To my mother, the strongest person I know

Introduction
I love and will always be there for my mother. This book and any books I write are dedicated to her. She was only able to give what she had, and I believe if she had known what she was doing to me, she would have changed her ways.
Mom, I know you can’t give what you don’t have. You taught me to be independent and the opposite of you; therefore, I am. I only wish you could experience the joy in your heart and the forgiveness of another. It truly can change how you see the world. Your fear and self-sabotaging ways caused you to miss out on life. I pray that you see that love doesn’t hurt, and pain is only a mindset, not a way of life.
My mother was the disciplinarian who felt it was okay to punish her children with extension cords, shoes, belts, pots, pans, and even hammers. Her words were just as harsh—bitch, hoe, motherfucker, bastard, son of a bitch—yet she was my inspiration even then.
Mom, I looked up to you because no one else was in my face daily, teaching me how not to be. Your strength, as I saw it, was scary and often overwhelming. I believe God has put it in my heart to forgive you, and I do. I love you for all that you are and all that you’re not. I love you for who I’ve become. I will always love you and defend you from any opposition that may come your way.
Many will say, “Why don’t you just talk to her and tell her how you feel? You don’t have to put your business out in the streets.” I don’t owe anyone an explanation, but for reading’s sake, I’ll say this: my reasons for writing this book go far beyond my childhood experiences and relationship with my mother. I hope this book reaches that girl or woman who has experienced similar or worse things that I have and that she understands and comes to terms with her past enough to forgive her mother and embrace her before it’s too late. When her mother is gone, there will be no more hugs, kisses, or time spent together. I pray that the young girl or woman at least can say “I forgive you” and mean it. A spoonful of love and a cup of forgiveness can change who you are, both inside and out.
Mom, I love you with all my heart, and I hope you can understand why I needed to write this book.
