Personal life Chandler was born in Buffalo, New York, the fourth child of Edward Chandler, a farm owner and cigarette sales [1] representative, and his wife, Sally. He was raised in Chicago, Illinois and at age 11 moved with his family to a [2] farm in Loganville, Georgia. Chandler graduated from George Walton Academy, in nearby Monroe, in 1983. As a freshman at Walton, Chandler was a member of the 1979 state championship football team but left the following year after his father died in a car accident. Chandler participated in the theatre program at Walton after quitting [3][2] [3] football. Chandler's widowed mother also opened a kennel to support Kyle and his siblings. After graduating from high school, Chandler attended the University of Georgia, where he was a drama major and [4] member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. In 1988, seven credits short of a bachelor's degree in drama, Chandler dropped [3] out of Georgia to pursue a television deal. He is married to Kathryn Chandler, a television writer; the couple have two daughters and since 2007 have lived in Dripping Springs, Texas, southwest of Austin. For nearly 20 years since [5][6] beginning his acting career in the late 1980s, Chandler lived in Los Angeles.

A new voting system determined nominees in particular categories (mostly lead acting and outstanding series categories) by a "blue ribbon" panel of judges, which resulted in the exclusion of popular shows such asDesperate HousewivesandLost, and actors like Hugh Laurie fromHouse.Lost's exclusion was mocked during the opening sequence (see below), when O'Brien, accompanied by Hugo "Hurley" Reyes, heads down a hatch to get to the Emmys. O'Brien asked Reyes if he wanted to come; Reyes says coyly, "Well, we weren't exactly invited", to which O'Brien replies "But you won last year!" Ellen Burstyn was nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Special for her role inMrs. Harris, even though she was onscreen for only 14 seconds. The following is a partial list of nominees, with winners in bold.
