Introduction
As an avid senior golfer, I am no professional. I simply enjoy playing golf. At my age it’s great to be alive, and to be able to look forward each day excitedly towards playing another challenging or frustrating round of golf.
At my age, I can never be a great golfer, especially when you start learning and playing the game at age 65. However, I can play golf to my own personal satisfaction, and that itself is a great accomplishment to see your ball soars up into the sky and landing it where you hope will land.
With age, even the greatest of golfers like Jack Nicholas has to call it quit from competition. Of course, to be sure, he’ll continue to be playing and contributing for the betterment of golf, and probably die with his “club on”.
With golf, unlike basketball, squash, tennis, cricket, football or soccer or hockey, once you’re hooked, you’re hooked for life! There’s no mandate age for retirement. To quote a famous line: There’s no business like “golf” busi ness!
Tiger Woods, today’s greatest golfer, started playing at a tender age of three. He’s no doubt a child prodigy in golf. Great as he is, he still practices 14 hours a day and loving it! There is no short cut to success. Failure or success is only demarcated by a thin line.
For the ladies, Annika Sorenstram or Michelle Wie, the 16-year old phenomenon, will be your role models. Michelle is able to pitch her game with the men and can even strike the ball as far as John Daly, Ernie Els or Tiger Woods. She’s still young and time alone will tell just how great she would be in the future.
Golf does not discriminate with regards to age, physical abilities or handicaps. Golf has seen great days from those players without legs or artificial limbs, and the visually handicapped. Golf is for one and all, rich or poor, and in this Lucky Country it is so affordable.
Be you be 3, 30, 60 or 90 years young, you’ll find your place in this most wonderful game ever devised by the mind of men. This tribute is attributed to the Scots where golf is known to have first started.

Why This Craze Over Golf?
What’s this silly game that I am so hooked up with? Just taking up the game at age 65 and after going through a back operation some two years ago? Like most people, I had the notion of being downright stupid chasing after a little ball not much bigger than the size of a ping pong or a squash ball, and all trying to put it into the hole, after a series of drive from the tee-off green. Most people, including seasoned professionals, encounter daily joy and frustration . . . yet they still persist and never seem to re sist!
Here’s the “G
