Preface
This introduction to competition law is a companion guide to the University of Law’s competition law course. As such, it has an emphasis on practical issues relevant to many of the law firms in which our students will qualify. This edition has been substantively revised to methodically work through the constituent elements of the main competition law prohibitions, with added examples. It also covers more elements of merger control that are most relevant in practice, such as the acquisition of minority interests, with a new emphasis on UK merger control. This edition has also been updated to cover many of the recent developments in competition law, such as in the increasingly important field of private enforcement actions. It does not, however, cover Brexit in any detail since at the time of writing the future arrangements between the UK and the EU remained unsettled.
The authors
Beatrice Roxburgh formerly practised EU and UK competition law at Linklaters LLP and in-house at BT Group plc, and now teaches at the University of Law.
Meytal McCoy and Stephen Medlock, of Mayer Brown LLP’s Washington office, contributed to the US law sections of this textbook.
Contributors to past editions include Mhairi Morter, Trevor Tayleur and Thomas F Bush.
