Insights from Chapter 1
#1
The only way to be secure and dependable is to be your own boss. This means having control over your life and the ability to support yourself and your family on your own terms.
#2
A home business gives you security and allows you to live the life you want. It allows you to make decisions that are best for you, not someone else. It gives you the opportunity to go as far as you want to on your terms.
#3
Ray’s road to success was not an easy one. He struggled with doubt about his self-worth, which is understandable given what he went through as a child. But he never wanted to be complacent in any area of his life.
#4
Ray’s story is similar to Jess’s. He was working his way through college while working at a department store makeup counter. He wanted to use his marketing degree, but he didn’t want to settle for a dead end job.
#5
If you want to change your life, you must first stop accepting it as it is. Stop being miserable and comfortable at the same time. Misery will build while your comfort will only dwindle.
#6
It’s time to get upset. You have to start living a life you actually enjoy, not one you simply tolerate. You have to get what you want and deserve, and not settle for anything less.
#7
Once you are on your own, even if it is part-time, it is like the Wild West. There is no one telling you what to do and when to do it. You are employee and employer. You call all the shots, reap all the benefits, and face all the consequences.
#8
Everyone has a past, and it includes you. Be brutally honest with yourself about what triggers you have that are holding you back. Ask yourself why you do the things you do, and why you believe the things you believe. And most importantly, why you are clinging to the things you think you need.
#9
If your problem is your commute, try carpooling, or listening to audiobooks or podcasts. There are many ways to better this part of your life. Complaining and complaining without doing anything is not a permanent solution.
#10
Step 3 is to figure out how you’re going to do whatever it is you want to do. If it’s finding a new way to commute, figure out what you need to do, research your options, and choose one. If it’s saving up money so you can invest in yourself, then those blocks of time should be spent on budgeting, looking at the money you have now, and finding ways to make it grow.
#11
Having more than one source of income is not only designed to get you to where you want to be, but it can also be a safety net in the event that something unexpected happens with your day job.
#12
It can be difficult to leave your job and start your own business. Remember that you are setting an example for your kids, and they will be watching you to see what they should expect from life. Be prepared for criticism from those around you.
#13
It may be difficult to change the way you live, but remember that you are doing it for your own benefit. The people around you may have concerns and fears about your decision, but don’t let that deter you.
#14
Everyone wants more in their lives. They want to make a difference, and they want to have an impact on the world around them. They want to escape their current situation and live the life they want.
#15
The path to success is not always clear, and it will take courage to leave your current landscape behind.
