“I’m home Janice, what’s for dinner?”
“Your favorite Bill. Prime Rib roast with mixed vegetables and garlic toast”
“That sounds great. I’m starved, I didn’t eat lunch today.”
“Why did you not eat my precious husband?”
“We were so busy; I just stayed at the office.”
“Do you have a computer job in the city any time soon?”
“As a matter of fact I do. I am networking several computers at major Real Estate Company tomorrow. My have been assigned a project that has a deadline. This project must have been out of the office, I called you about noon to see if you wanted to meet me for lunch. I left you a message with your secretary Susie; didn’t she give it to you?”
“I was so busy today; I didn’t have time to read all my messages.”
“You work to hard sweetheart. I’m making plenty of money computer consulting. Why don’t you take a few weeks off? By the way, my car is showing the GETTING HOT SYMBOL could you check it out? You know I drive in traffic every day.”
“I’ll check out the car when I finish dinner.”
“Bill, you are so talented and smart. I love you, love you, and love you. Do you have some quarters? I have to go through toll booths. My goal is to be the best Computer Consultant in the world.”
“I guess everyone needs high goals Janice.”
“I don’t have any quarters, but here is a five dollar bill. Five dollars ought to take care of the tolls going and coming home. It’s time for me to go to bed. Great dinner Janice.”
“I’m glad you liked it. I’ll be up to bed after I load the dishes. Since I cooked dinner, why don’t you help me with the dishes? I’ll rinse and you load.”
“I would, but I had a hard day at the office. I’ve been assigned a job away from the office.”
“I called you about noon today to see if you wanted to meet me for lunch. I left you a message with your secretary, Susie; didn’t she give it to you?”
“I didn’t have time to check my messages.”
“You work too hard sweetheart. I’m making plenty of money installing and repairing computers. Why don’t you take a few days off?”
“I would but the business couldn’t operate without me.”
“Where is your next computer job, Janice?”
“I have a job at the Real Estate Company where I made enough money to buy us tickets to Paris, remember?”
“How could I forget?”
“Now, the Real Estate Company wants faster computers and wants all the agents to have easy access to the Internet like they do accessing the Multiple Listing Service or what’s called the M.L.S. which l set them up on years ago. My goal is to be the best computer consultants in the world.”
“I guess it’s a good thing to have big goals. I don’t have any quarters but here’s a five dollar bill. That ought to get you through the booths going and coming back home. I’m going to bed. See you in the morning.”
“Why don’t you help me clean up down here?”
“I would, but I had a rough day. I’m going to bed. I’ll see you upstairs.”
Janice cleaned the kitchen then went up the stairs. Bill was talking on the phone when she entered their bedroom.”
“I know it’s a big project but you know we’ll work everything out.”
“My wife just came to bed. I’ll let you go, see you at the office tomorrow.”
“Who were you talking to Bill?”
“I was talking to Phil from the office. We were talking about the deadline for the project we’ve been assigned.”
“I might be able to make you feel better. I know you could make me feel better.”
“I’m just too tired. Let me get this project over with.”
“How long will that be? We haven’t been close in forever.”
“I thought you would be glad to have the break.”
“Bill you know I have no complaints getting close to you. We haven’t been close in a month. You used to come home early if you knew I would be here after a computer job”
“Ever since I got the promotion, my plate is full.”
“You know I’m here beside you if you need me Bill.”
Bill was up early the next morning.
“ Sweetheart, why do you have your Sunday best suit on? It’s Friday?”
“ We have a meeting after work today. I have to say a few words. I wanted to look tasteful. I do need to be a good example.”
“The company we are merging with will have some of their employees at the meeting.”
“Considering you are higher up in the company, I would call off any meeting on a Friday.”
“Janice, you do what you have to do. No reason to cook breakfast for me in the morning, I will be supervising workers on site.”
“You look great in that new suit, Have a good day.”
“Thanks, I will. What are you doing today?”
“I plan to work in the yard as usual, then I am going to study a bit about some new modus operandi happening in the computer world so I will be totally prepared Monday. The Internet is all I need to keep updated. The computer industry is amazing. Simply amazing.”
“We have the Internet on every computer at the office.”
Bill left the house.
“Hey Bill. I thought about you ever since we talked last night.”
“You always look good to me Bill, but you especially look good this morning.”
“Thanks. As promised, here’s your breakfast burrito.”
“Thanks Bill. As usual, your coffee is on your desk.”
Janice researched some computer issues on the Internet then went outside to work in the yard. Karen and Cindy drove to Janice’s house.
Karen rolled down her window and shouted at Janice.
“Janice, the yard is looking great.”
“What is all that dirt for around the big oak tree shaped like a heart?”
“I plan to plant 168 flowers in that heart shard dirt bed.”
“Where did you find that many flower plugs?”
“The flowers I plan to plant are not plugs.”
“They are container grown flowers. That heart shard bed is going to be more than just beautiful.”
“What kind of flowers are you planting Janice?”
“Twelve different kinds. Petunias, Begonias, and Snapdragons, to name a few. They com from a flower grower in the city”
“How are you getting that many flowers up here?”
“I need to find a pickup truck.”
“You know Doug and I own a pickup. I’ll drive you to the City.”
“Thanks Karen. I’ll buy you lunch and give you some flowers.”
“I’ll go for that. Let me finish my computer job next week in the city.”
“I’ll be going to a computer job Monday.”
“Cindy and I are going to the newly built restaurant. Come go with us.”
“Bill has a meeting this evening. I’m not cooking. Wait for me right here. Let me put on some clean clothes then I’ll be ready.”
“Cindy, do you really think Bill has a meeting this evening?”
“Not only no, but hell no Karen. Companies don’t have meetings on Fridays.”
“I thought the very same thing Cindy. Bill is jerk. Do you remember how we looked at each other when Father Mercer announced Janice and Bill husband and wife?”
“How could I forget Karen? Did I ever tell you about that time at Janice are wedding reception when Bill was really coming on to me?”
“He got fresh with me at the reception also.”
“I never told Janice. I figured she had enough on her plate.”
“I didn’t either Cindy, but I sure wanted to. Her parents must have spent a fortune on the wedding.”
“I thought our bride maids dresses were beautiful Karen.”
“One thing remains true.”
“What’s that Karen?”
“I caught the wedding bouquet and Doug and I are still married.”
“Doug’s a great guy. You both work for The Criminal Justice System.”
“I just answer the phone for the system; Doug actually works inside the Pen.”
“Does Doug ever talk about what goes on out there?”
“Occasionally he tells me a riveting story and occasionally I tell him a story. I do answer the phone for all the State Penitentiaries in this County. We both don’t like to bring our work home.”
“What careers you have chosen. I’m glad that I just sell clothes.”
“You work at a great clothing store Cindy.”
“Thanks Janice. Bill bought a really nice suit from the men’s department. I even introduced him to the salesman. The salesman was very pleased. He bought me lunch that day. When he brought me the lunch he told me that he had never sold a suit that expensive to be worn to church. Bill told the salesman that he would call the suit his Sunday best.”
“Let’s order dinner ladies,”
All three ladies studied the menu.
“I definitely want the special ladies.”
“Does that sound good to you Cindy?”
“The dinner special looks good to me Janice. I’ll waive to the waiter”
“As a matter of fact it looks good to me also.”
The waiter came to the table.
“What can I do for you ladies?”
“We will have three specials.”
The ladies visited and finished dinner.
“Thanks for including me ladies. Dinner was great.”
“Who gets the bill or do you want me to ask the cashier to divide it accordingly?”
“I’ll take the bill.”
“I’ll give you my portion in cash Karen.”
“Forget about it Janice. Cindy and I are taking you to dinner.”
“What’s the occasion ladies?”
“Being so good to that good looking stinker of a husband of yours.”
“I heard a song preformed by Ronnie Dunn singing about what a relationship between a husband and wife should be. I bought the song from ITunes and played it over and over.”
“What captured your attention about the song?”
“What I remember the most about this song were these words: Sometimes we’re weak. Sometimes were hurt and it cuts deep. If were fighting were both losing. Turn the anger into water and let it slip through your hands. We live this life breath to breath and we all bleed red,”
“I’ve heard that song Janice.”
“I have heard that song too Karen.”
“Bill has heard those words about a thousand times. Excuse me while I go to the restroom.”
“Why don’t we invite Janice to go with us to the Auction?”
“Good idea Karen.”
