The e-book creation process
It helps to have a basic understanding of how e-books are created -- or more specifically, how they SHOULD be created. Think of the process of turning your printed book into an e-book like turning a brochure into a web page. No matter what people tell you, there is no “magic machine” that will automatically do this for you. You can scan in your brochure and put the scanned image of your brochure on the Web as your website, but what you will end up with is a crappy, non-functional website. Likewise, you can run your book through an “auto converter” and end up with a crappy, non-functional e-book, that gets bad reviews and returned. The proper way to create an e-book is through a very human and careful process. Any other way will result in less than desirable results.
In this manual process, unrecognized formatting is removed, and required formatting is added. This results in a finished product that might look a bit different from the book you submitted. This short book explains those differences.
