Description

Depression may be the scourge of our times. It eats away at us from the inside. It is relentless. What can one do? This is the question the author addresses in this article, suggesting that there is hope for those willing to go to that deepest placement in their souls. Author Bio: Christopher Alan Anderson (1950 - ) received the basis of his education from the University of Science and Philosophy, Swannanoa, Waynesboro, Virginia. He resides in the transcendental/romantic tradition, that vein of spiritual creativity of the philosopher and poet. His quest has been to define and express an eternal romantic reality from which a man and a woman could together stand in their difference and create a living universe of procreative love. Mr. Anderson began these writings in 1971. The first writings were published in 1985. On a personal note, when Mr. Anderson was asked to describe the writings and what he felt their message was he responded, "Spiritual procreation. Mankind has yet to distinguish the two sexes on the spiritual level. In this failure lies the root of our problems and why we cannot yet touch the eternal together. The message of man and woman balance brings each of us together in love with our eternal other half right now."

Depression i s the scourge of our times. It is like a can c e r th a t eats a w ay at us. In this case it eats away at our spiritual bodies. It feels like a hole in the soul, like a black hole exi s ts right in the mid d le of one's heart. It sucks away o n e 's (primal) ener g y. One has spiritual e n tropy—e v erything i s g oing out a n d nothing is coming in. One's ability to function, to b e useful, to believe in something, to have hope i n life i s replaced by despair and hopelessness. T h e philosophical term for depres s i on i s e x i st e n t i a l dread . The religious term is s e paration fr o m God . My term is emptiness . Indeed, in dep r e s sion one feels there isn't anyone to help. Even “God” has turned his back. One is all al o n e . T h e re i sn ' t any h e lp or hope. The despair and emptiness just continue to eat away at o ne ' s center. One's last hope is that this all just ends.
Another word for depression is p a in. By pain I mean an inner pain. W e could also call that spiritual pain. It is a p r e sent moment pain. The p ain i s such that it rules one's life. The despair, the hopelessness, the b lackness—one is left empty inside. All of one's hopes and dreams—gone. All of one struggles—in vain. All of the prom i ses—false. All of the prayers— u nanswered. And so it goes. The disease spreads far and wide. There is no stopping it. If you haven't been to u ched by it, you will. If y o u think you are strong and can take it, you can't. It you believe yo u r faith will guide you, i t won't. “Why is this h a ppening,” you scream?
If you are experiencing depress i on and do go a psychologist or psychiatri s t, you might have your probl e ms listened to, you might be diagnosed as bi-polar or even psychotic, maybe you will be given drugs to take, etc. But none o f t h is gets to t h e core of t h e problem, d oes it? Or p erhaps you will go to church and find “God.” Maybe you will meditate and hope to “still your soul.” P e rhaps you will take a program like Avatar thinking you can “create/dis - create” your beliefs. M aybe you will find some organization to serve--“be in servi c e”--like the cou n try or the “ for the people” political p a rty. Certainly that can make a diffe r ence, can't it? Oh yes, t h ere is one for yo u , that you c a n make a differen c e. You can do whate v er y ou want, w e are told. Yet, at every turn we a re blocked. Blocked, do you hear that? Blockage equals depres s i on .
I suppose it is not too surprising that some people comm i t suicide, go postal, or become ideological zealots. Oth e rs just succumb to drugs, booz e , and cigarettes or become porn addicts or fall into homose x uality—a new identity! Yet st i ll others find reli g i on or some cause to believe in. What's the latest—g l obal warming? Th a t's just great! B u t the block is still there. T he b lock i s always the r e . What this block is it is not known. Entropy controls. We are all being used up.
Now, let us ask, is it possible to identify this block? If so, we might be able to remove it. Yes, i t is possible, but not without knowing something e lse first. W e must know the cause behind all effe c t . If we can know cause might not we begin to crea t e in such a way that we trans c end t he block? In knowing ca use we also know the block. I n fact, we step out of the block.
There are o ther words we use to mean t h e sa m e thing as c ause. “God,” for example.
Or truth, order, absolute, law, source, given, center, f oun d ation, p r in c i ple, and so on. These are all met a physical te r ms conn o ting the foundation o f t h i ngs. Sometimes we use the term 1 st cause. In any event, this is what we must know. I often hear the idea that we c reate our own rea l ity. There i s merit to t he idea that through our thought we create our reality or world. That is called the law of ca u se and effe c t that is kn o wn as the l a w of at t rac t ion in new age circles. But what is t h e cause, “God,” truth, order, absolute, law, source, given, center, foundation, or p rinciple fr o m which w e can create equal to the cause, “God,” truth, order, absolute, law, source, given, center, foundation, or p r i nciple o f t hings? If we are n o t crea t i ng f r o m the 1 st cause, we are not go i ng to receive the 1 st cause. If we are creating from an imbalance or mispremise going in, isn't that what we will g e
