Radical self-love is vital. It is the reason I am able to spread the word about it, as I have been there and back again. My mission is to help others realize that they are enough, and that they can be happy.

Radical self-love is the act of loving yourself the way you would love your best friend. It is treating yourself the way you would treat someone you care about the most. It is a reflection of your inner world, and it is constantly being reflected back at you.

The most destructive belief I’ve seen is that cynicism, sarcasm, and a judgmental attitude are a way to prove your intellect. But in reality, they come from a place of fear. It takes strength and intelligence to be positive.

It’s important to get comfortable spending time alone. We are constantly distracted these days, and we are constantly compelled to change songs, tidy up, check our e-mail, or send a text message. But this doesn’t help us.

Meditation is about training your monkey mind to stop distracting yourself from just existing. It’s simple in concept, but difficult in practice.

I started tapping, an energy healing technique that uses pressure points and meridians to help clear emotional blockages, in 2006. It was extremely easy and cost nothing, and it proved to be effective. I began tapping on everything that I didn’t want anymore, and after a few months, my eating disorder completely disappeared.

I spent a night in front of the mirror and cried my fears and insecurities out. I then tackled my body image, and I’m now a happier, more optimistic person.

Tapping is the best tool in my arsenal for dealing with anxiety. It is simple to do, and once you’ve used it to clear out any major issues, you can use it to keep tweaking and improving your quality of life.

The struggle to be thin is an internal battle played out on the exterior. You may think that you want to look different, but what you really want is to feel different. Being skinny doesn’t change your life, and it doesn’t make you happy or fulfilled.

To build self-esteem, start small. Don’t think that you need to set a huge goal to feel good about yourself. If your first challenge is to climb Everest, you’ll feel overwhelmed and that will add to your discontent. Instead, do something simple.

I always disliked the name Amy. It never spoke to me, and it never really said anything about who I was. I decided I wanted to change my name, and I changed it to Gala Lumière Darling.

The first step in developing your own persona is to start small, like changing your name. Everything we do is a result of our own self-esteem, and we can excuse and rationalize everything. So while you’re making an effort to be the best person you can be, recognize your own humanity.
