FOREWORD
The purpose of this written course, entitled A Comprehensive Course in Psychic Development and Mediumship, is to provide detailed lessons which are intended to be accompanied with practical psychic and mediumistic exercises. While studying these lessons, students are encouraged to spend laboratory time in a regular seance under the direction of a skilled, and qualified psychic/medium.
Because of the brevity of these lessons, students are encouraged to further their knowledge through supplemental reading. Along with this course, you are also provided with a resource and suggested reading list.
Although this course emphasizes practical psychic education, it also has a distinct spiritual emphasis that is genuinely empowering. This course, like most Spiritual information, will create a new level of awareness that transcends these written words, regardless of your religious affiliation.

- Chapter 1 - Methods of Psychic Development and the Circle
There are many different ways of developing your Psychic Abilities. Years ago, one of those methods was by using hallucinatory drugs like LSD. This method, that was very popular in the 1960’s, eventually proved to be unsuccessful and very destructive. Drugs not only endanger the physical body and the brain, but also destroy and confuse the necessary clarity of the psychic abilities.
HYPNOSIS was another way that proved to be helpful in development to individuals like Edgar Cayce. However, it is not always successful for all individuals. In order for psychic ability to develop most, it has been found that time and persistence are the most valuable method.
The INDIVIDUAL METHOD of development has been proven to bring about some psychic abilities, but has always been met with limited success. In this method, the student will sit alone at home and focus their attendance on meditation, affirmations and various psychic exercises that may be done alone.
There are a number of drawbacks to this method. First, the individual has no way of confirming what is being received psychically, as there are no other people or teacher present to give feedback. This is something that is very important in order to develop psychically. Second, there is limited protection without other people. The individual students may be leaving themselves open to negative or bad psychic influences.
The most natural way is called the COOPERATIVE METHOD. This method is so successful because it involves a group of like-minded individuals, a qualified medium as the instructor and a regular Circle with positive thoughts and protection. The Cooperative Method provides the necessary feedback that students give each other, along with an experienced teachers guidance. In the circle, students learn to make the important distinction between their own thoughts and the impressions that are psychic.
The circle of development is often referred to as a SEANCE. This is the method of development employed in this class. It is also the method needed to develop MEDIUMSHIP.
The Circle
The circle has a symbolic, as well as a practical value. Symbolically, the circle represents an opening into the Spirit World. It also represents unity, an unbroken living center whose nature is to absorb and reflect power and energy. Circles in Nature usually deal with power and energy fields, and for the mediumship, positive power means protection. Everything of psychic power in the universe is represented in a circle. In the physical world, the earth, the planets and stars in the universe are all basically round. Atmospheres around heavenly bodies are held to a nearly circular gravitational field. The planets rotational fields are in circles around the suns of the trillions of Solar Systems throughout the universe. Even the seasons change and come back around to form circles. Native Americans understood the power of circles. Their tepees were round, and these were always set in a circle to form a “National Hoop” for protection.
On a practical level, when we form a circle, we are forming a closed psychic bond of power. When this power is of a positive nature, which it usually is, then it is very protective. The group of individuals called “sitters” forms this circle as a psychic bond which, once started, must not be broken by any one of its members, either by getting up or walking around, or by leaving before it is properly closed. Each circle is unique and produces its own interesting phenomena.
Ten Rules of the Circle
Harmony and cooperation are essential for a successful circle. In order to have a harmonious circle where each student benefits and develops to the maximum, we must adhere to ten basic rules each time we come to class. They are as follows:
1. Before coming into the room, you should try to remove any bad thoughts and problems from your mind. You should not discuss negative happenings with others in class. If you have your mind on your problems or on negative emotions, you cannot give the circle your best. Thus you will be cheating yourself and the other students.
2. You should make every possible effort to come to each and every class. This is very important, because the spirit chemists are working with you trying to harmonize you psychically for your place in the circle. Of course, if there is an emergency or you are ill, you should not come to class. Please call if this should happen.
3. Classes always begin with a prayer. Our prayer is simple and not heaped with “empty praises”. We always ask for the “White Light of Protection”. This light represents the Divine, or the universal understanding of God, and is there for our protection. This light is produced by our prayers and our concentration on it. It will form in our auras and in the collective aura around the circle. This white light will only attract Spirits of Light who come to help, assist and teach. It will also repel all negative forces and influences. Any negative thoughts weaken its power to protect. This is why it is essential that we THINK POSITIVELY! Prayers should be said with feeling and sincerity. It is far better psychically and spiritually to give a prayer spontaneously from the heart, then to read a prepared written prayer. Each student must contribute his psychic energy to the circle by giving the opening prayer at least once throughout the course.
4. Concentration is important. Realize that you are entering into a Spiritual frame of mind. This will help you to become aware of the Spirits who come to class. You can not be aware of the Spiritual when your mind is focused on the material. With concentration, you are makin
