About the Author
Deva Green is the daughter of Jeffrey Wolf Green, who was the founder of Evolutionary Astrology, and author of the books, Pluto: The Evolutionary Journey of the Soul (usually referred to as Volume 1), and Pluto: The Soul s Evolution through Relationships (Volume 2), both published by The Wessex Astrologer. Deva has also edited a collection of her father s previously unpublished notes and seminars in Essays in Evolutionary Astrology: The Evolutionary Journey of the Soul (The Wessex Astrologer). She is a graduate of the evolutionary astrology correspondence course designed to create certified evolutionary astrologers. In addition, she co-taught an introductory course for evolutionary astrology with Kim-Marie Weimer. Deva has lectured at the annual Evolutionary Astrology Conferences in 2005 and 2006, and at NORWAC 2007.

It seems so many lifetimes ago now that I first began to lecture and write about evolutionary astrology. The first lecture occurred in 1978 in Seattle, Washington. From that lecture onward, wherever I went to lecture on the evolution of the Soul, its evolutionary journey from life to life that could empirically be measured and understood through the symbolism of astrology, the lecture halls would be packed and overflowing. The hunger and thirst for this information is simply overwhelming. When the first volume of Pluto: The Evolutionary Journey of the Soul was first published by Llewellyn in 1985, it became an immediate best seller. Along the way, many foreign publishers have printed it in many, many different languages. In 1994, I established the School of Evolutionary Astrology which had teaching centers in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Israel. This included a video correspondence course that offered certification as an evolutionary astrologer, utilizing this system of understanding the Soul s evolution through time. In 1998, work was completed on the second volume, Pluto, Volume II: The Soul s Evolution Through Relationships , which dealt with the Soul s relationship to other people, and why we attract the kinds of people that we attract to ourselves for our ongoing evolutionary purposes and intentions through time. God willing, I will soon begin work on the final volume to the Pluto trilogy.
Evolutionary astrology is based on the evolution of the Soul. The Soul in astrology correlates to Pluto. The evolution of the Soul, from life to life, is simply based on a core dynamic that exists in all Souls: Desire. Within all Souls there are two root desires that serve as determinants for its evolution. One desire is to separate from that which created the Soul in the first place. For many that can be called God. For others it can simply be called the Source of All Things. The other desire is to return to that which created the Soul. The evolution of the Soul is thus a function of a progressive exhaustion of all separating desires that can leave only one desire remaining. And that is to return, or reunite, with that which has created it in the first place. This simple natural law or truth can be validated by all peoples independent of beliefs or cosmologies. All of us have whatever separating desires: the new possession, the new career position, the new lover, and so on. We may, in fact, have the ability to actualize those desires, and once we do, we do indeed have a temporary sense of satisfaction-but what soon replaces that satisfaction: dissatisfaction. It is this dissatisfaction that echoes the ultimate desire to return to that which created the Soul in the first place, and it is only that desire that leads to a state of permanent satisfaction. All peoples on Earth have this experience that only requires that you validate your own experience. It does not require any beliefs at all. It is this simple and natural law or truth that is the core of Evolutionary Astrology.
The entire paradigm that is used in evolutionary astrology is provable by anyone who uses it. It can be proved by your own life experience, and it can be proved through the clients that you work with if you are a practicing evolutionary astrologer. It is proved by one s life. The entire paradigm that is used by evolutionary astrology is Pluto, it s polarity point, the South Node and North Node of the Moon, and the location of their planetary rulers with all the aspects therein. This paradigm does reflect where the Soul has been before the current life, where the life was left off, where it picked up from, and where it was going. It does answer the underlying questions that are so deep in the heart of many: why am I here, and what are my lessons. Again, this evolutionary paradigm is provable by anyone who chooses to do so. I say this because there have been certain voices in astrology who have attempted to undermine evolutionary astrology without ever making the actual effort to use the paradigm itself.
When I first began lecturing on evolutionary astrology in 1978 there was no one else doing so. For many, many years I was the only voice who did so. Indeed, no astrologer had ever dealt with the evolution of the Soul at all. No astrologer even dealt with the obvious and natural law of evolution either. Today there are many who have read the Pluto books, many who have attended or taken the correspondence course in evolutionary astrology, and of course all the people who have attended my lectures on this subject over a twenty-five-year career. As a result, there are new voices and teachers in this vital work.
And now I have the privilege of introducing to you my daughter, Deva Green who has written this necessary and deep work on evolutionary astrology, a how-to, hands-on guide to the right use and practice of the underlying principles of evolutionary astrology. It offers concrete, step-by-step examples of how to apply the evolutionary paradigm to the birth chart. In so doing you can prove to yourself the paradigm of evolutionary astrology. It simply requires that you validate your own actual life experiences as viewed through this paradigm. Deva has studied my work for many, many years now, and of course had many conversations with me about it. As such, she is uniquely qualified to teach this work as reflected in her first book, Evolutionary Astrology , which is now in your hands.

I have had the privilege both of studying with Jeffrey Wolf Green the first and only time he taught an astrology school in the United Kingdom, and of teaching evolutionary astrology alongside Deva Green at the Norwac Conference in Seatlle. Through my own teaching and speaking on evolutionary astrology in the U.K. and America, I have seen firsthand the power of this material to transform people s lives.
Here, Deva Green draws a blueprint for the methodology of evolutionary astrology, leading on from the pioneering work of her father, Jeffrey Wolf Green, described in his books Pluto: The Evolutionary Journey of the Soul and Pluto: the Soul s Evolution through Relationships.
