The photographer, Kimberley Flowers, named one version of this photo Blue Moon Lily Unfolding . 1 The flower is of the Datura Genus and is known by other common names such as Jimson Weed, Moonflower, Moon Lily, Hell's Bells, Devil's Weed, Devil's Cucumber, Devil's Trumpet and the flip side - Angel s Trumpet. The different parts of the Datura plant have both poisonous and hallucinogenic properties - in other words, it can act as a devil who destroys you or as the angel who leads you to higher realms. Interestingly, in India this plant was once considered sacred to Shiva and Kali, who represent the paradoxes of simultaneous creation and destruction. In many indigenous traditions of South and North America it was the Datura who aided the shaman in journeying. Don Juan of the Castaneda books initiates his apprentice through the use of this sacred plant. The Datura plant is said to induce a true trance state, unlike other hallucinogens that blur the lines of reality, Datura causes one to be totally unable to distinguish reality from fantasy which leads to the question what is reality anyway?
Its presence on the cover of this book is appropriate, as a metaphor for the way we arrive on this planet - trailing clouds of glory along with bucket loads of s**t. Our karmic condition can either imprison us in a hellish nightmare of endless repetition, which is poisonous to the soul, or serve to initiate us in blazing new evolutionary trails. The ultimate shamanic journey is not in-between the worlds, but here, in this life. The soul has journeyed here, to enter this dreamlike realm we call reality, to discover new depths of its own being. The medicine of the Datura must be approached with healthy respect for its danger, much like our own deep processes. But the beauty of its gentle, spiral unfolding, reminds us that grace is ever-present and abundant . despite our fears.

This book is dedicated to my Father John Patrick Walsh who joined our ancestors on the other side the month before this book went to press.
There were two things my father consistently told me, I am proud of you and Whatever you put your mind to you will accomplish it . Regardless of what I was dreaming up as my life s direction while growing up, from shoveling manure at horse farms to managing rock bands, my Dad s faith in me never failed. Because of him, there is a glowing ember of self-confidence deep in my core, that admittedly does brighten and dim, but never goes out. Through his graciousness, my father helped to create a blueprint in my psyche of an archetypal wise and mentoring father . This gift not only healed parts of my past karmas, but allowed me to be open in this life to receive guidance from other Fathers , which leads me to Jeffrey Wolf Green and Roger Woolger. The process of writing this book triggered many of my own past karmas of persecution because of books I wrote or beliefs I spoke out about. The karmic scars of persecution stayed with me and caused me to fear coming out and being seen . Both Jeffrey and Roger helped me in their own way to heal those scars and learn to reclaim my voice and authentic self.
Thank you, Jeffrey, for making Evolutionary Astrology your life s work. Your passion for what you do, and unfailing desire to serve God/dess is reflected in the many lives that you have touched, including my own. I am personally grateful to you for your encouragement and support for this work. Long before I saw myself as a teacher or writer, you pointed me in that direction, with a certainty as if my own soul was speaking to me.
Roger, you have been a teacher/mentor, healer and soul brother to me. From my first major regression where I got my tongue back to teaching workshops with you, more than anyone else, you always encouraged my potential. In fact, it was your lighthearted comment ( Gee you have enough material there for a book ), while looking at all the case studies I had sprawled across the table, when preparing for a lecture, which set this book into motion. Your pioneering work has not only transformed thousands of individual lives, but has created a map that can be followed into a new psychology of the soul. It is my deepest hope that this book, serves as a signpost on this map, pointing people to the potential for deep soul healing that exists for all of us.

A child is born on the day and at that hour when the celestial rays are in mathematical harmony with his or her individual karma. The individual's horoscope is a challenging portrait revealing the unalterable past, and its probable results. But the natal chart can be rightly interpreted only by men or women of wisdom: these are few.
This is a statement by the great Indian Guru and teacher Sri Yukestwar who was the teacher and Guru of the great Paramahansa Yogananda. Yukestwar was himself an astrologer of galactic dimensions in his own life. The very origins of what we now call Evolutionary Astrology comes from this Soul. And it is with this type of astrology that we can truly and accurately symbolize and map the evolutionary development and progression of each Soul on Earth.
The root cause of evolution in any Soul is DESIRE. It is this simple yet profound truth that was the very basis of Buddha s enlightenment as he sat underneath the famous Bodhi Tree contemplating the nature of and the causes for, sorrow, pain, and suffering. Within each Soul there are two almost coequal desires. One desire is to separate from all that appears to be the totality of Creation, including the Creator Itself. The other desire is to unite with the totality of the Creation, including the Creator Itself.
The evolution of each Soul is determined by the interaction of these dual desires for it is these desires themselves that determine what the life experiences are. Evolutionary Astrology is a symbolic system that allows the astrologer to determine what the desire nature has been and is in each Soul. It is a system that is provable to anyone who takes the time to deeply study it, and to apply it. It requires no belief system at all. It only requires that one validate one s life experience.
For example we can have whatever separating desires that we have: the new career post, a desire for wealth, the new lover, and so on. And we may in fact have the ability to actualize those desires.
