Turn Every Dream into a Reality
“What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the sufferings of injured...”
– Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam
Some Treasured Moments with Kalam
Kalam – The Epitome of Patriotism
A life full of struggles has never let this powerful personality down. Kalam has gracefully rose from humble beginnings of selling newspapers on footpath to becoming a great scientist. Dr. Kalam was a man of impeccable character, dynamic personality, indomitable spirit, profound knowledge and firm conviction. Hardwork and determination to achieve big in life has made Kalam an iconic figure for millions of people in India and abroad.
Kalam was a great philosopher and futuristic personality who went on to serve the nation and become a strong source of inspiration for all. His unparalleled contributions to the nation and society as the President, a Scientist, a Teacher, and a Philosopher will always be remembered by generations to come. Despite being born in a poor Tamil Muslim family and facing severe financial hardships, Kalam overcame all odds to study physics and aerospace engineering. He proved that nothing is impossible for human to achieve if one has the will power to acomplish. The great man of India had started his career by joining the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a scientist. His contributions and magnetic personality attracted everyone around. Soon he became famous as the ‘Missile Man’. Later on, Kalam served the nation and inspired millions of countrymen as the 11 th President of India.

Dr. Kalam releasing a book ‘Ae Watan Tere Liye’ (a book on patriotic songs) authored by Dr. Nishank at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi

Welcoming Dr. Kalam
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, was an ordinary man with extraordinary talent and above all he exploited his talent very well throughout in his life. This made him an extraordinary man. His was a life of selfless, humble living that exhibited immense love for his countrymen and a never ending quest for peace, knowledge and its dissemination. For a man of such great stature, it was refreshing that simplicity was his preferred way of life. It would not be wrong to say that Kalam was the epitome of national integrity and communal harmony.
I was blessed with a lifetime opportunity to meet this great personality in June 2007. I had requested Dr. Kalam for a meeting on release of my book on patriotic songs, ‘Ae Watan Tere Liye’. The meeting had left an indelible mark on my life. The love, respect, and humility exhibited by Dr. Kalam touched my heart. It was overwhelming to see the simplicity of one of the greatest men of India.

During 11 th Convocation Ceremony of Kumaon University
Dr. Kalam appreciated my spirit and inclination towards the literary world. He also accepted to be a part of my book release ceremony. Later on, I met Dr. Kalam for the second time at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on 24 th August, 2007. The occassion was the Release of my Book ‘Ae Watan Tere Liye’. This time, I met a true patriot holding immense love for the national language. I was mesmerised by his towering personality.
After the book release ceremony, Dr. Kalam opened a folded page of my book and recited a few words from it in his ‘not so fluent’ Hindi -
“Abhi bhi hai jung jaari, vedna soyi nahi hai
Manjuta hogi dhara par, sanvedana khoyi nahi hai.
Kara ha balidan jeevan nirbalta dhoyi nahi hai
Keh raha hu ae watan, tujse bada koi nahi hai”
While reciting the last two verses from the poem -
“Keh raha hu ae watan tujse bada koi nahi hai” (Nothing is bigger and dearer than you – my beloved nation), Dr. Kalam got emotional. I could feel the patriotic spirit of this man through his words and eyes while reciting these lines.
I consider myself lucky to have got another opportunity to meet this amazing personality on 10 th August 2011 at the 11 th Convocation Ceremony of Kumaon University. Although Dr. Kalam was undergoing a very strict schedule during those days, he accepted my invitation to the ceremony saying – “Meeting students and being among them is my first priority”.
While delivering the 11 th convocation address of the Kumaon University, Dr. Kalam exhorted the graduating students to aim high and work honestly to carve a niche for themselves in their chosen fields and keep the lamp of knowledge constantly burning to achieve the vision of Developed India. Despite being a non-Hindi speaker, he showed great enthusiasm while adding a few words in the national language here and there in his speech.
Dr. Kalam is not with us today but his words of wisdom and inspiring thoughts will always guide us. Inspired by his philosophies and dynamic personality, I had decided to pen down a book that will keep inspiring the present and future generation of this country. It is my dedicated attempt to enclose the great works and thoughts of a magnanimous personality in a small book.
I have also included the powerful stories of some wonderful personalities who despite facing adversities have been tremendously successful in life. Hope these soul stirring and inspirational real life stories will help readers fulfil their dreams.

Publisher’s Note
The Power of Dreams
As a publisher, I have had the privilege of fulfilling creative pursuits of many illustrious authors. My amazing experiences with those incredibly creative personalities, made me believe that every dream holds a strong vision for the future. It is all about opening up mind to the extraordinary power of dreams.
A dream is creative imagination and a mode of intrapersonal communication between human beings and the Almighty. The dreams serve both ways, as a guiding path and gateway for achieving one’s aspirations as well. The Astrologists have their own way of interpreting dreams and their significance in one’s life which too has not been proved wrong
Post partition of India in the year 1947, my father Shri Govind Ram migrated to India as a refugee. Despite being broken and devoid of any financial lifeline, he never lost hope. “Let’s dream big and start achieving afresh!” he would say. His inspiring and energetic words “Only human beings are blessed with the power of dreams” serve as a source of inspiration for me.
The world of dreams is mystical. Not only it transports us into the mesmerizing virtual reality of an imaginary dimension of our own little known persona and also keeps us inspired even when awake. The dreams are inspirational and work as a guiding force in different stages of life. Many great personalities across the globe have been inspired by their dreams. However big or small a dream is, whether or not you decide to get inspired from it, they still hold unfathomable power to transform & steer our life in the right direction.
In this world, so many aimless people just exist; they have no aspirations, desires or goals. Life without a dream and a vision is like wandering in the voidness of vast desert.
Recently, I met famous author Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, former Chief Minister Uttarakhand, now a member of parliament in the 16th. Lok Sabha from Hardwar constituency. Dr. Pokhariyal expressed keen desire to author a book on former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He revealed that the book will be based on Dr. Kalam’s supreme beliefs and oriented towards inspiring the youth of India. I was overwhelmed with the idea and accepted his request. I also never forget Dr. Kalam’s words, “India can become a developed nation by 2020 only if everyone contributes to the best of his or her ability and capacity.”
I am thankful to my dear friend and an eminent author Dr. Ashok Kumar Sharma for suggesting the title of this book ‘Dreams that Don’t Let You Sleep’. I request the readers to send their valuable feedback after reading this book. Your valuable input will help me publish interesting, worthwhile and inspirational books in future.
