Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The original ms. By Miss Sarah Hoare, from which the first memoir is printed, occupies eighty-nine pages of a small quarto note-book, and was begun in 1825, the writer being then eight and forty. There are slight differences in the ink and the handwriting, indicating that there were some intervals of time before it was completed.
