Jockey Alley, south of the courthouse square in Mt. Pleasant, circa 1920. Ege Photo. In ten years scenes like this would be a memory preserved only in street signs. This view looks ESE from Main Street at the present day intersection of Mosher Street. Mosher Street would be where the tree to the left is located. Mosher Street ended at Fancher Street at the time and was extended to Main in the 1970s .

At left: Ann Arbor RR at the Chippewa River, Mt. Pleasant, MI, circa 1900. Clarke Historical Library. This is the bridge James Davis horse tried to cross pulling a buggy when the animal became entrapped. The structure is located a block north of the Mt. Pleasant Ann Arbor Depot. One can see an American Type 4-4-0 of mid 1880s vintage. It is pulling a passenger train north out of Mt. Pleasant with an eventual destination of Frankfort on Lake Michigan. To the front of the engine is Fancher Flats in the background. In afew years this would become Island park. To the rear of the train in the distance is Harris Brothers Mill on Broadway. The Ann Arbor discontinued passener trains in 1950 after 64 years of service. Today the new connector trail from Island Park to Nelson Park would be along the bottom of this photo .

There are many people to thank when one undertakes a project of this nature and if we miss thanking anyone we want them to except this acknowledgement as our heartfelt thanks.

We would also like to thank Mr. James R. Schafer, of Mt. Pleasant Magazine , for putting together an article on the history book at the very beginning of our project. Thank you!
A special thank you goes out to Mr. John F. MacDermaid for allowing us to use copies of his paintings of the Isabella Court House for our front and end pages of the history book. Another special thank you to Mr. Hudson Keenan for the articles he submitted and to Floyd Seiter for the pictures he provided for this publication.

Isabella County Genealogical Society

Genealogical Society of Isabella
The Isabella County Genealogical Society began informal meetings in 1995 with a group of people who had similar interests in family history research. By 1998, a solid core of individuals was meeting regularly which allowed for a more formal organization. The charter membership was made up of 23 individuals.
The objective of the Society is to preserve and make available for genealogical research the records of our members, to encourage and assist the study of family history; to promote the exchange of knowledge and to encourage the deposit of genealogical records. The Society also cooperates with other societies and assists the area libraries in expanding and publicizing their genealogical holdings.
The Society has been actively developing a library of research books, created an annual obituary list from the local newspaper, established a society newsletter, offered classes to the public on family history and participates with the Michigan Genealogical Council. The group hopes to expand in the future and find a larger location where it will be possible for the public to have greater access to local records.
Current officers of the Society are Dan Grace, President; Sherry Sponseller, Vice-President; Marydeanna Duckworth, Secretary; Darlene Fedewa, Treasurer; and Linda Hopp, MGC representative.
