“I know the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken,
for He is right beside me.”
Psalm 16:8

I lovingly dedicate this book to my late Mom.
She endured many hard seasons
in life and her marriage.
Her prayer was that you would
be encouraged that God is enough
to go through the hard seasons of life,
small or big.

A WORD FROM PHIL
Dear Reader,
My wife shares through this book many of our ups and downs through the first twenty years of our life together. She shares very personal and intimate details about how I treated her and the sins I committed which greatly affected our marriage and her.
Know that she has my full consent to write every word you will read. I hope and pray you will realize how powerful and almighty our God is and how He is able to transform a life.
“ And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.
Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.
No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 (NLT)
I invite you to read this book which I hope will inspire you to follow God wholeheartedly, either for the first time or to renew your commitment to Him.
I am blessed that my wife still stands by my side! Be assured He can transform you as He has transformed both of us.
May the Lord bless you,
Phil Turgeon
THE LIGHTHOUSE: A REFUGE FROM THE STORM
When I look at the cover picture, I see so many biblical concepts represented. First and foremost, it is a shelter from the storm. It doesn’t take you out of the storm, but provides shelter through the storm.
“ God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come and
the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!”
(Psalm 46: 1-3, NLT)
“ Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
He is my God, and I trust Him.”
(Psalm 91: 1-2, NLT)
“ The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior;
my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.
He is my shield, the power that saves me,
and my place of safety.”
(Psalm 18:2, NLT)
The lighthouse itself can take quite the beating through the fiercest storms, but because of its solid foundation, it remains standing.
“ Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.”
(1 Corinthians 16:13, NLT)
The lighthouse provides much needed light and a sense of direction through storms and darkness.
“ You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
(Matthew 5:14-16, NLT)
Jesus never promised to take us out of the storms of life, but He did promise He would never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) and that He is always with us (Matthew 28:20). Do not let the storms in your life destroy you, rather draw nearer to God in these troubled times and surrender to the winds of adversity and pain so that you might be refined and radiant with joy. (Psalm 34:5)
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
To my dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who is the reason for this book. He is worth every breath, every tear, every joy, and every second of your life. Nothing will satisfy you but Him. I cannot wait to see Him face to face! My one and only desire is that, through this book, you get to know Him more intimately and are freed from whatever is holding you back from experiencing the fullness of what God has in store for your life.
To my husband, my best friend. How far we have traveled in 22 years! Even through all our ups and downs, I would not trade you for anyone else. May we always follow the One who saved us. Love you more.
To my children: Maxime, Sophie, Elyse, Alexandre, Xavier, Amelie and Sebastien. Thank you for willingly offering to take on some of my chores, watching over the little ones, and cooking delicious meals that I could complete this project. I love you so much words cannot fully express it.
To my mother who passed away during the final stages of the publication. She encouraged me to continue the mission God had entrusted me. One month before her passing, she shared how she wished that thousands of women would be encouraged to keep trusting God through the hard seasons of their lives and their marriages. Her prayer was that God would use this book to bring many to Himself.
To Louise, my dear godly friend, who was the first to encourage me to put my story into words. Thank you for being there every time I needed it. I have understood who Jesus is through many of your actions in my early years as a believer.
To Ron Rudd, who was the first to trust us with sharing our testimony. You have been a blessing and an encouragement in our walk and through the writing of this book. May God reward all your hard work at keeping marriages and families strong.
To Ann Rudd, who worked many hours at editing this book. Thank you for your precious help and your prayers. May God reward your beautiful servant and godly heart.
To Stephen Priddle, who greatly helped with the editing and enthusiastically encouraged us to pursue this project. Thank you for believing in us! May God reward your labor in strengthening marriages and families.
To Lise Guertin, who is our family’s prayer warrior. Thank you for all the prayers you have poured into this project and the great love you have for our family. May God bless you as you are an incredible encouragement.
