A NOTE FROM JENNY
To the recovering procrastinators,
I see you . I played hard to get with a dream for ten years. As a professional creative, I found myself living in a performance-mentality zone, riddled with anxiety and comparing myself to everyone. A secret dream was on my heart, but I continually ignored it because Why would I do that?
Everything changed as Jesus got ahold of my heart, broke the chains of inadequacy and fear, and taught me about His truth and my identity in Him. He gave me the strength to take one small step toward the dream, and I haven t stopped since. In this space of freedom, God has empowered me to help others take action and live on purpose.
I know dreams and goals change with the seasons. The occupational dream I had as a third grader carried me into my twenties. Then God began to speak a new goal that is taking me into my forties. I also had additional dreams, like producing a TV show, having a family, and learning to understand Sabbath rest. I believe God is awakening a dream or two for you too. Pick a goal (any size will do) and tackle it throughout the pages of this book. If you re unsure what that goal might be, I pray God will use these words to awaken a new dream for you!
Your calling from God may look and sound different from other people s because God wired you with unique talents and abilities. Let me show you what I mean. A few months ago, my parents and I were chatting around the table at their house. My little bro was there, who, as it turns out, isn t so little anymore. He s a good-guy lawyer who married an amazing, kind, smart woman we call the good doctor. For obvious reasons, I ve nicknamed lawyer bro and neurologist sis-in-law the power couple. I realize they are more than their job titles and duties, but I m proud of them, so let it be.
Since the power couple was right in front of me, I asked them a pressing question about an issue a close friend was having with an elderly relative. My brother launched into the need for a power of attorney and living trust. Then the good doctor described the signs and symptoms of dementia. As I struggled to decipher the legalese and medical jargon, I made a self-deprecating joke. My mom then mommed the moment and said, You re all smart in different ways.
A few months later, the power couple called me for advice on how to help a colleague find a book publisher. After asking me to re-explain some of my advice, Bro sheepishly added, We re all smart in different ways. This statement has now become the family joke when we need each other s support. And now you re in on the jok
