About the Author
Her name is Kathleen Finnie Williams. She was born and rai sed in a quaint little community in Farmington, Illinois. She had an amazing childhood with great parents, three older sisters, and one younger brother. In 1976 she married the man of her dreams and moved to a small town called Wynne (not where) in Arkansas w ith a motto “City with A Smile”. They have been married for 44 y ears. They weren’t fortunate enough to have children (although God g ave her the children of the world to love) they have one rescue dog. She loves to tole paint, do needle-arts, cook, read, Stampin’ Up, and write poetry. She has crafted all her life. You’ve heard that a b aby is born with a silver spoon in its mouth — well, she was born w ith a pair of scissors in her hand. God opened her eyes and ears m any years ago and she would hear a word, a phrase, envision a set ting, or recall a memory, and instantly, she would grab her pad and pen and a poem was created. She prays that each one will test y our senses, bring you fond memories, inspiration, a smile and ma ybe a tear or two. We all have our talents and a purpose here on e arth. She is so grateful for what God has given her, and she’s alw ays been more than glad to share her talents and to pass the m on.
Why These Poems Were Written
My mother always sent cards or letters every year to fa mily, friends, and relatives from all over the U.S. She mostly did this at Christmas time to catch up on her yearly life and the raising of her five children. When she passed away in 2002, my sister J ane didn’t want Mom’s dedication in sending letters and cards to end. Jane retrieved Mom’s address book and decided she would ca rry out her tradition. Jane would buy cards for each holiday and wr ite a little word or two. One day she asked me to write poems to s end out to everyone as a way of keeping in touch. This has been go ing on now for about thirteen years or more, and no one wants us to stop. Our Mother would be proud of what we are doing, and I’m sure she would have encouraged us to continue until the cows c ome home. These poems were started because of Mom, and I hope t hat you will appreciate why Jane and I keep doing this year after year.
Dedication
To my mother, Adrienne Illing Finnie, I dedi cate
this book of poems. My Mom was suc h an
inspiration to me, and she was so prou d of
the things I accomplished in life. When I read
some of my first poems to her, she would al ways
comment that it was the best one and as each one
was read she repeated the same. Do you think she
was partial just a tad or perhaps a proud Mom?
To my siblings, Susan, Jane, Diana, and my brother B ruce,
they certainly gave me something to write a bout.
I would also like to dedicate this book to the following pe ople...
To my great Aunt Marion Doolittle, a writer herself, from wh om I
feel I inherited my writing sk ills.
To George Anne Draper, for her red mar ker in correcting and ad ding
to my work. She was an English teacher for many y ears
and the school’s librarian. What a gift she has been to hel p me
make sense of my work.
To Dr. Mike (Who I used to work for) and his wife K athy
for allowing me to come in to work on my days off and use
their computer to key in all my poems. I thank you from the
bottom of my h eart.
To my BFF, Melissa Holland, who listened intently to all
my poems and enjoyed each one. She would always tell me she
could see, feel, hear, smell, and taste my poetry. Her friend ship
has instilled in me what true friends are, and her loyalty has
never fa iled.
To my dearest friend, Cindy Parker, who I h ave shared laughter, tears, happiness and even
sad times...You have always been there for me. I love you de arly!!!
To my friends, the Calvert family, who own and ope rate
“The Cordial Cottage”, a beautiful bout ique,
(I call my home away from home). T hey (especially, Papa Calvert) gave me
strength, love, friendship, and f aith.
The coffee pot was always on and we discussed, laughed, cried, prea ched,
and always listened to what each had to say.
To Chandler Calvert, I give my heart for help ing me with all the technology to put my book
together and getting it sent off to the printers. He was a major part in making my dre am a
reality (my number one bucket list).
To many friends and family members in my life who have
collected my work over the y ears,
I FINALLY TOOK YOUR ADVICE AND GOT MY POEMS PUBLI SHED...
Thanks to all and God Bless you.

I wrote the one for my dad when I was a teen.
The one for my mother was when I was prob ably
10 or 11 years old.
Mother kept these and when she passed away
in 2002, my sister found them and gave t hese
treasures to me. This was the beginnin g of
my writing ability, a gift from God.

To Jeff
I’m not a famous poet or a writer of fame;
I’m Kathleen (Finnie) Williams with a plain and simple name.
Jeffrey Allen Rutledge was my nephew in deed,
A child sent from God with a very special need.
His life was taken from us and I unders tand
When God called for him, he gladly gave his hand.
The strength, the knowledge, the special things he did
Made him like a Gian
