A BOUT T HE A UTHOR
Dennis Trittin grew up in the small village of Kimberly, Wisconsin, the son of a paper mill worker and at-home mother and the youngest of four children. Dennis received his BBA degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976, and after spending three years in financial management at General Electric Company, headed west to pursue his dream as an investment manager.
Upon receiving his MBA in 1981 from the University of Washington (where he was Valedictorian), he joined Frank Russell Company (now Russell Investments)—first as a Research Analyst and later as Director of Research, Director of Strategy, and Senior Equity Portfolio Manager. During his career, Dennis helped grow the firm’s assets from $1 billion to $220 billion through leadership roles in investments, sales, and client service. Dennis was given awards for excellence, innovation, and fund of the year while at Russell Investments and earned his CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation in 1986. He evaluated thousands of investment management firms over his 28-year career and learned from the industry’s best and brightest.
In 2008, Dennis retired from his investment career to devote his life to helping young people succeed. He developed a financial literacy and life skills program at a local private school, where he also served as board chair and taught financial courses to students and adults in the greater Gig Harbor, Washington area. Dennis is committed to help fill the educational gap that exists with respect to leadership, life skills, and finance—thus, the inspiration for this book.
In 2010, Dennis founded LifeSmart Publishing, LLC as president, CEO, and author. LifeSmart’s mission is to inspire, equip, and empower the next generation to live purposeful lives of integrity and impact. What I Wish I Knew at 18 has since evolved into a leadership/life skills curriculum that is taught by educators and mentors worldwide to develop well-prepared young leaders. Further, he recently co-authored Parenting for the Launch: Raising Teens to Succeed in the Real World to encourage and equip parents for the milestone launch of their children into independence.
Dennis met Jeanne, his wife of 32 years (at this writing), in a finance class at graduate school. They remain happily married and are the proud and grateful parents of their two grown children, Michael and Lauren.
In addition to family management and non-profit board, church, and volunteer causes, Dennis spends time on the golf course, enjoying the company of friends, mentoring teens and young adults, following the financial markets, writing, traveling, and visiting the family’s condo in Door County, Wisconsin.
