The Door



A door represents an access point: Access to the other side that has a different dimension of life for us to experience. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues is the doorway into a supernatural relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is the threshold to a miraculous lifestyle of signs, wonders and miracles that equip us to complete the assignment Jesus gave to us, the church, to disciple the nations.

The Day of Pentecost dramatically changed the lives of 120 followers of Jesus. Their experience became the birthing of the movement that began the transformation of human life and miraculously affected religion, culture, society and government.

Their accomplishments were not based on human effort but on the power of the Holy Spirit working through them in intimate relationship with the living Christ. What changed them is available to change us today. What empowered them will empower us. What healed their world is the only thing under heaven that will heal ours.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues is where it all began, and we cannot accomplish our “mission” in today’s world without it. Jesus is still the baptizer with the Holy Spirit and there is a miraculous transformation of your life awaiting your decision that will empower you to fulfill God’s purpose for your life and the vision you carry.

The other side of this door is access to a life of intimate communion with God expressing itself in true worship, untold blessings as you experience God working through your life, and much more – all because you chose to obey His Word.

To Carl Gove, my good friend and brother for over forty years. Carl first shared with me that when we speak in tongues, we are speaking a language of praise and worship directly to God. That was a revelation to me that changed my understanding of what it means to speak in tongues. I hope this book will change how many others view it as well.
PURPOSE OF THIS BOOK
A great tragedy in recent church history has been the demeaning, devaluing, and even the opposition to the baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. Despite how much scripture is dedicated to describing and defining its importance to Christianity and how many millions of God-loving believers exist who have had this experience, it is amazing that there have been and are still so many church leaders who have almost dedicated their lives to trying to disprove its validity. There is almost no end to the sermons preached and the books that have been written trying to prove their point, and then we have to wonder why they’re doing it. What’s the purpose? Why try to turn people away from something that has so much biblically defined benefit?
It really is unfortunate that through the years, there have been so many in the realms of Christian influence who have sought to dissuade believers from receiving this gift the Father promised to give and have done so with a good degree of success. Any time church leaders fail to teach the truths of scripture accurately and humbly, Christians and their influence in the world suffer consequences. We need all the grace God has made available to us if we are going to fulfill our mission. God has provided access to grace and empowerment through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and that is what the Bible clearly and simply teaches.
If the Bible is the Word of God and is as true today as it was when the books and passages were penned, which is unquestionable, the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of speaking in tongues is a miraculous, wonderful, necessary, and useful gift Jesus intended for us to make use of. I don’t think it’s possible to fully express how important this gift is in the value system of heaven, but I’ll give it a good try. This is my attempt to right a wrong, to “Prepare the way for the Lord” (Matthew 3:3).
This book is intended to encourage and help those who want a close relationship with God and want their lives to be as affective for His kingdom as He desires them to be. Its purpose is twofold: I hope it will be used for personal growth as well as a teaching aid in church, the classroom, or in small group settings to help people understand and experience Spirit-filled lives.
The second purpose is to help those who have been negatively influenced against the baptism of the Spirit and speaking in tongues. Many have been taught that it is not for today, that it was an event intended only for the first few years of the New Testament church or even that speaking in tongues is a lying sign and wonder, that those who do it are of the devil and have been deceived. I plan to prove that is contrary to everything the Bible says about it.
I have incorporated almost every argument that has been raised to dissuade Christians from pursuing the baptism of the Holy Spirit and refuted those arguments with scriptures. I’ve also included testimonies by some wonderful Christian people, some I’ve known for many years, about how they received the baptism and what it has meant for them.
We who teach the truth of God’s Word and hope to see believers come into the fullness of all God has provided must be prepared to answer the sincere questions that come from those who have been taught contrary to the scriptures.
