Chapter One
AN ANIMALWHISPERER IS BORN

Toronto1959 and after 72 hours of hard labor my mother finally gave birth to me. Iremember my birth because at the last-minute I had changed my mind and wasrefusing to come out,
Ididn’t want to be born.
Irealized what a daunting life in general I faced and I had changed my mind, nogoing back now I’m afraid. So, I came into this world feet first with my littlehands balled into small fists. (My spiritual name later became “Stands withFists”) I was not a happy camper to say the least.
Iwas born with the gift of communicating with animals and I didn’t realize thatnot everyone else could do it as well. I thought it was a natural thing beingable to communicate with animals. I’ll never forget how I found out noteveryone was like me:
Welived in the East End of Toronto in a very old house that was located beside analleyway. Our house had an odd slant to it whenever you walked through it, itseemed you were either going uphill or going downhill.
Ourold house had all kinds of neat things in it, we had a telephone that was stuckon the wall with a cord attached that you had to physically dial the number youwanted with your finger, imagine that. You never knew who was calling you whenit rang until you picked up the receiver.
Wehad a narrow and long closet in the kitchen, when you opened it an ironingboard came down to the floor all ready to use. A couple of crawlspaces in theattic a child like me loved to get lost in for hours on end, exploring nooksand crannies of the creaking old house, hiding from the many spirit people Ialways saw way up in the third-floor attic.
Itwasn’t until many years later I found out that the spirit people were mydeceased relatives that were watching over me, I felt crowded but they neverfrightened me.
Whatdid scare me was whenever the wind blew, the huge tree on our front lawnshimmied and swayed with the wind and her big branches would scratch againstthe side of the old house like claws against a chalk board.
Thatold creaking house seems to come alive with the moaning of the hardwood floorsand the creaking of the walls, now that scared the crap right out of me!
WhenI was four years old my dad bought a white German Shepherd puppy and we namedhim Lance. Strange circumstances brought him into our lives.
Therewas a parade in town and on one the floats a man was selling a litter of purewhite German Shepherds puppies. They were eight weeks old. Dad brought one homefor me and I remember we bonded instantly. There was just something specialabout that dog, I just felt that we’re meant to be together, almost like he waspart of me.
