Foreword
T he statement that ‘Disease is a Retribution of Nature’, speaks of volumes of our deviation from nature. Most of the diseases, which have surfaced now, owe their origin to various types of pollution which, in itself, is a mother of untold miseries. Not only physical pollution alone but pollution of mind also has wrought unimaginable upsets, resulting in various physical and psychic disorders, commonly known as psychosomatic disorders which have immense capability to turn our apple-cart.
When air, water, vegetables, fruits and other sources for human consumption are polluted, human body cannot remain unaffected. Total fallout of such polluting factors has resulted in pollution generated disorders such as cold, cough, asthma, bronchitis, tuberculosis, multiple allergies, to name a few only. Skin diseases, cancer, etc. have also been precipitated by the environmental pollution.
Since respiration is a vital force to let our body exist, apart from other factors, as there cannot be life without breath. We cannot ignore the fact that our respiratory problems have stemmed from and precipitated by various forms of allergies whose eteology, in many cases, has yet to be unmasked. So, when the healing scenario is not so encouraging, we have no way but to carve out a suitable way out ourselves, that is by sheer self-discipline and self-management.
I have tried my best to explain the causes of various respiratory disorders which still continue to torment all age groups and sexes. Emphasis has been laid mostly on preventive measures, natural ways, cost-effective treatment, and patient compliance. There are various other curative systems, like Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Yoga etc. which also promise effective and curative treatment in their own individual ways. Keeping in view the popularity and patient acceptability of alternate systems of medicines, I have tried to mention only those methods/medicines/formulations which, in any opinion, are capable of alleviating respiratory disorders at a nominal or not so high a price.
Patient is not concerned with the system of treatment but the rapidity with which he can be cured, preferably without shelling out minimum of money. When one is required to pay hefty fee to specialist doctors and also forced to pay a higher price for the medicines, which he is called upon to purchases, it is earnestly hoped the methods, as suggested in this book, will go a long way in ameliorating his sufferings. Let our discerning readers be-the judge as to how far have I been able to help them in getting rid of their maladies.
Before I conclude, I would express my gratitude to Shri Narinder Kumar, the versatile and energetic Managing Director of Diamond Pocket Books, who has been an asset to me in lending support and guidance.

1 Physiology And Anatomy of Human Body

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
Our body can be compared to any machine which, despite variable components, functions as a single entity. Similarly, our body also is comprised of various organs which, in health, function in unison, enabling the body to perform its various functions.
There is no subject, perhaps, than food, on which so much and so often has been written. Food, and that too balanced and nutritious food, is the basic edifice over which human body is dependent. It is the food that meets various demands of the body. Hence, all other functions of human body are subservient to digestive system.
Mouth is the opening from which food enters our body. Teeth and gums are the chief organs that masticate food which is rendered in emulsified form due to mixing of saliva, which is generated by salivary glands. The more we masticate, the more we relish our food which tastes sweeter.
Duly emulsified food reaches human stomach, via food pipe, which is a pear-shaped hollow muscular bag and is lined by a glandular mucus membrane that secrets gastric juices. These gastric juices consist of water, pepsin, salts and hydrochloric acid. Food is rotated and mixed so that it is rendered and converted into a more liquefied form. Now, the stomach juices/ enzymes get absorbed with food. Proteins, after ingested food goes through the above process, are changed to such a form that those could be absorbed to nourish the system.
ORGANS OF DIGESTION

Even if food is not fully digested at this stage, proteins and starches get activated, when fat and oil are also broken up to set the oil free. From the stomach the food descends into small intestines which look like a coil, measuring about 8-9 metres. Here, intestinal juice, and pancreatic juices mix up with the food.
Largest organ of the body is liver, which weighs about 2kgs or so, and is situated on the right side of our abdomen, just below the diaphragm. Liver his fine tubes, called bile ducts, into which bile is secreted by liver cells. Hepatic duct is formed by joining together of bile duct—the former carrying bile to first part of the small intestine, called duodenum. Bile is a yellow coloured fluid which contains mucus and bile salts. Bile acts on oil and fat substances of the food and breaks them into small drops.
THE STOMACH

Liver also stores sugar which, when needed by the body, is released as per body’s requirements, but only till liver functions properly and stays in a healthy state. If liver suffers from any disease, it won’t be in a position to retain and store sugar, thus the end-result would be that sugar would get spilled over to blood, creating a morbid situation of diabetes. The problem is further complicated when pancreas are also diseased and insulin secretion also falls down, resulting in further rise blood sugar level. When faulty liver functioning and inability of pancreas to release insulin combine together, the situation is rendered graver. Pancreas release not only insulin but also other juices that help fat, proteins and starches to metabolise, thus further aiding in digestive process.
Large intestine has nothing to do with the digestive process, it simply retains residual remnants of food for about 24-48 hours. Its main job is to form, harden the stools and expel the same through rectum and anus. Here, whole process of digestion comes to an end.
Points to remember on food intake
If our food is fully nutritious and well balanced, digestive process is also in perfect order, there is no reason as why the body should be subjected to any malady, since illness enters through our mouth which is a gateway to let in food. If food is taken regularly and illness surfaces, not due to food but due to any other cause, the illness would be shortlived and its intensity would also not be that grave or rapid. Regularity in taking your diet and the quality and quantity of food intake and proper-digestion and final expulsion of faecal matter are all the more, rather dominant factors, dominant and imperative requisites to healthy growth of our body.
If ever you ingest wrong and harmful foods, the nature will warn you by sending initial warning signals which are a pointer towards cautioning you to mend your food habits. But, if such warning signals are ignored, you will certainly expose yourself to various health hazards. So, a guarded approach is always beneficial. Too much, indiscreet indulgence and relaxation in food priorities and no actual avoidance of such harmful factors would often prove counter-productive.
As for diet, it is advisable to adhere to the food products offered by nature. The vegetation growing in the region/place where you stay, would suffice to guarantee a reasonable, healthy and cheerful life but, when you opt to ignore the said factors, you will be inviting multiple health problems, of course to your own detriment. The more you cling to nature, the healthier you stay, the more you stay away from nature, the more health problems you
