Introduction

In the beginning of the 21 st century a fundamental paradigm change is happening in front of our eyes : the world center of gravity that used to be West and North for the last 500 years is shifting to East and South. This shift is as fast and as strong as a tidal wave. It is a sweeping one. This phenomenon has been labeled “Emerging Economies” Emerging economies have been, most of the time perceived and analyzed in terms of macro-economics and in an international trade perspective. Almost exclusively. This view angle, if not wrong, proves limited, if not irrelevant when it comes to explain what are the business and managerial forces at work beyond the scenes. Macro – economics and International trade only reflect a “disincarnated” and very conceptual view, totally remote from the ground reality. Understanding, deep inside,the business and managerial mechanisms that power the tidal wave that is coming up is all about getting the right granularity in observation and well as the right mindset tools and models. And, surprisingly enough, not much has been researched in that direction and that level so far. This is the purpose of our book. Incidentally it is interesting to note that “Emerging economies “, even taken on a macro economic sense are no longer… “emerging”. Suffice to realize that in 2014, China has matched the USA in terms of GDP ( measured in PPP )..except that growth demographics and education Gradients works in favor of China, by far..
