Recommended Styles of Beds
If you’re pondering what brand of bed to buy, you should be sure that you consider all your options. Acquiring a
bed is an important decision, and you have a wide selection of bed types to pick from.
New or used? You might be able to get a bargain on a used bed frame, but it might be more awkward than it’s
worth. Used mattresses almost never work out. Not only is it likely to be worn down, it may harbour dust mites or
other pests.
Here is a sampling of popular kinds of
Egyptian cotton sheets

Divan Bed
The name divan bed is confusing because it is actually applied to two brands of beds. The term originated in the
Ottoman Empire for what was essentially a sofa bed: a sofa by day and a bed by night. Usually the divan bed would
lack arms at one end in order to permit comfortable sleep by taller people. The divan bed was typically used as a
quick and a cinch guest bed.
These divan sofas used to have storage space in the bottom, and this fact has led to the more contemporary usage
of the word. A modern divan bed is a standard bed with storage drawers manufactured into the frame. These
drawers are typically not heavy-duty and are normally used to hold items like spare bed linens.
Bunk Bed
The classic two-person bunk bed uses one of the best tricks in space-saving interior design: going upward. By using
vertical space, you can basically allow two people to sleep in the floor space of one. You can buy them in many
styles to match your existing bedroom decor and in many varieties to suit your needs. Some models feature a
bigger, two-person bed under.
The Captain's Bed
Captain’s beds were originally made for utilize in the cabins of a ship, where space was at a premium and there
was little if any room to store personal possessions. The bed of the ship’s captain contained drawers underneath,
and that is the signature feature of modern captain’s beds.

Futon Bed
Futon's originated centuries ago in Japan, where they were essentially a thin
mattress topper
that could be rolled
up and stored away during the day, saving space.
Today in the West, the term futon has come to refer to a particular type of sofa bed, commonly consisting of a
wood or metal frame and a skinny
waterproof mattress protection
with a cover. The frame can be configured
either for use as a bed or as a sofa. You can also obtain a futon chair that seats and sleeps one.
Futon's, in the west, are normally used as spare beds; but some people like them so a great deal that they use
them all the time, especially in cases where space is at a premium.
Trundle Bed
A trundle bed is a shallow bed on wheels or casters that slides underneath another bed when not in use during the
day. Most don’t have box springs.
These beds are a superb way of providing spare bed capacity where space is at a premium. People normally
acquire them to produce extra bed space for overnight guests.
Trundles can come in standard sizes up to full, and can be purchased as a package deal or separately from the
upper bed.
