After having cohabited with communism for 45 difficult years, the Serbian Orthodox Church has become a respected institution with political ambitions, openly supporting the Bosnian and Croatian Serbs and becoming increasingly opposed to President Milosevic. After a brief honeymoon period with the latter, the Church broke off relations, accusing him of betraying the Serbian cause. Since the beginning of the war in ex-Yugoslavia, the Church has increasingly considered the Vatican and Islam as enemies active in the 'satanisation' of the Serbs and the Orthodox Church. The Serbian church dreams of solidarity with other Orthodox nations in the face of the 'New World Order' imposed by the occidental powers.
Après 45 ans de cohabitation difficile avec le communisme, l'Eglise orthodoxe serbe est devenue une institution respectée dont les ambitions politiques se manifestent par un soutien affirmé aux Serbes de Bosnie et de Croatie et une opposition de plus en plus marquée au président Milosevic. Après une courte lune de miel avec ce dernier, l'Eglise a rompu, en l'accusant de trahir la cause serbe. Depuis le début de la guerre en ex-Yougoslavie, l'Eglise perçoit plus que jamais le Vatican et l'islam comme des entités hostiles, actives dans la « satanisation » des Serbes et de l'orthodoxie. L'Eglise serbe rêve d'une solidarité forte avec les autres peuples orthodoxes face au « nouvel ordre mondial » imposé par les puissances occidentales.
