JOSE ROMAY MARTINEZ ALFRED BINET : PRECURSOR OF A SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY OF INTERVENTION Alfred Binet, it is suggested, was a pioneer of a type of social psychology which today involves social intervention, and which may be called the social psychology of intervention or the psychology of social intervention. Three areas of Binet' s work may be examined : a) Binet' s ideas about the relations between methodology and intervention, which prefigure modem social intervention ; b) his active psychological interventions in the domain of clinical psychology with retarded or subnormal children ; and, c) above all, his social interventions in the domain of education. Binet already had a clear idea that clinical and educational interventions required taking into account both individuals and the society in which they lived ; as well, its was necessary to act upon both these levels.
La mise en perspective des démarches théoriques et méthodologiques adoptées par Alfred Binet dans un certain nombre de ses recherches et de son implication dans la solution des questions sociales posées par l'école permet à l'auteur de montrer son rôle de précurseur de la recherche action et de la psychologie sociale d'intervention telles qu'elles sont actuellement définies.
