SUMMARY This mythical tale, several versions of which have been gathered from Banzébi sources, is a text setting out the worlds of nature and culture surrounding the necessary out-of-clan marriage, as prescribed by the Banzébi society. Beyond this first level of analysis, the author endeavours to prove, by establishing a relationship with the main features of the social structure, that this tale is valued by the Banzébi society as a justification of the social system and of the political organisation.
