Gilbert 6 MSc Oct. m-sa.htm Content: This course discusses advanced concepts and methods in the analysis of the variation of quantitative traits, with a comparison between plant, animal and human genetics. The following topics are covered: models for the variation of quantitative traits and the covariance between relatives; componnents of variance; QTL detection and estimation of their effect under controled crossing, within families or in complex pedigrees; gene identification; evolution of the polymorphism.

Verrier4 MScOct.-Nov. m-sa.htm Tech breedingDr. J.L. Foulley  Dr.V. Ducrocq Content:This course deals with the methodological aspects of genetic evaluation and selection. BLUP methodology and index theory are discussed in an unified view. A great emphasis is put on the properties of the animal model (AM) BLUP and on complex models derived from the AM-BLUP. The annual genetic gain and the factors of efficiency of selection are discussed in detail, with an emphasis on long term joint optimisation of genetic gain and inbreeding and on marker assisted selection. Breeding plans and crossbreeding plans are also discussed. Advanced mathematical tools are provided when necessary.
