Materials:

100g Cascade Eco Cloud

Needles:

5mm (US 8) straight, 5mm (US 8)

40cm circular and 5mm (US 8) double point.

One cable needle.

Tension:

18 sts = 4” on 5mm (US 8) needles

Sized to fit average adult

Abbreviations

C12F = Cable 12 to the front. Slip 6 sts onto

cable needle and hold in front of work. Knit

next 6 sts from left hand needle, then knit 6

sts from the cable needle.

SSK = Slip two sts one at a time, knitwise from

the left to right needle. Insert the left needle

into the front of the two slipped sts and knit

them together on the right needle.

Cable Panel:

With 5mm (US 8) straight needles and waste

yarn, cast on 30 sts using the backward “e”

method (make a loop over your right index

finger, crossing the yarn at the bottom of the

loop then place on the left needle). This will be

a provisional cast on that will be undone when

the cable panel is finished.

Continue with Eco Cloud and work in cable

pattern as follows:

Row 1: Slip 1 st, P1, (K12, P2) twice.

Row 2 and all even number rows: Slip 1 st, K1,

(P12, K2) twice.

Row 3: As Row 1.

Row 5: Slip 1 st, P1, (C12F, P2) twice.

Row 7, 9 and 11: As Row 1.

Row 12: As Row 2.

Repeat these 12 rows a total of 11 times.

Unpick the waste yarn from the provisional cast

on and graft the cast on edge to the last row of

knitting or you can also use the 3 needle bind

off technique to join the two ends.

Hat Band:

With 40 cm circular needle, pick up and knit 1

st in each of the slipped sts along one long

edge of the cable panel. 66 sts. Work in rounds

of Seed Stitch as follows:

Rnd 1: (K1, P1) 33 times.

Rnd 2: (P1, K1) 33 times.

Repeat these two rows for a total of 6 rnds.

Cast off loosely.

Hat Crown:

Work as given for Hat Band. When the 6 rnds of

Seed Stitch have been completed,

decrease the crown as follows:

Rnd 1: Place marker, (SSK, K9) 6 times.

On following rnds, slip the markers and SSK the

next 2 sts while knitting the remaining sts.

When the stitches become too few to use the

circular needle, change to double points and

continue decreasing until there are 6 sts

remaining. Break yarn. Weave the yarn end

through the last 6 sts and draw closed. Sew in

yarn ends.
