Nancy the Nymphomaniac Ghost
‘Darling, how could you BEAR to live in this ghastly place?’
Martin Bramley closed his eyes and shuddered. Her voice had an effect on him like fingernails scraping down a brick wall.
‘Because I happen to LOVE it, Stephanie DARLING!’ he snapped. But his sarcasm was wasted on her, as usual.
‘But it’s so spooky, darling. And what was that dreadful group of people called who used to have drunken orgies here?’
‘The Hellfire Club.’ Martin grinned. ‘Actually I’m thinking of reviving their practices. They really knew how to have fun, Steph DARLING!’
‘Really Martin,’ she sighed, looking at her watch. ‘You can be so childish sometimes. And don’t call me Steph. It’s so common.’
Suddenly he wanted to grab her by the throat and shake her. But it would only cause problems. Instead he said, ‘Funny isn’t it how everything I say in my cockney accent is to common, but you fall about shrieking with laughter when your ponsy pals say Oh Fuck! In their stuck-up voices!’
But it was water off a duck’s back. She just tutted and sighed, then she said, ‘I’m not getting into one of your silly arguments, Martin. I’ve got to go. Gerald is taking me out to dinner.’
‘Oh good old Gerald!’ he shouted, then he walked over to the kitchen worktop and pouring himself a double whisky, he took a large swig. He instinctively tensed, and waited for her usual disapproving comments, but she didn’t say anything.
Stephanie clomped loudly across the oak floor in her stiletto heels, making Martin wince at the noise and the possible damage to the old floorboards.
