Description

Effortless Belonging reveals the unchanging knowledge of our own deepest wisdom, by taking out the mysticism and revealing the freedoms from suffering in life. It must be prepared for, step by step.

The Lost Science of Synchrony is the Lankavatara Sutra’s thesis. An ancient text, based on an outlawed teaching, gathered from the ruins of an obliterated dynasty, it is heretical and revolutionary concerning doctrine and religion. Hidden away as an esoteric treasure for 1600 years, the single translation from Sanskrit to English required computer analysis to understand. This book minimizes the esoteric and explains the limitations and challenges of human potential, its relevance is life changing. The ancients gave us a basis to understand who we are and how to go beyond our animal limitations, into a wellbeing beyond our wildest dreams. This challenging book reveals a whole new paradigm beyond imagination and discrimination. Like Everest it’s not for the faint hearted, but man what a view.

Effortless belonging is the greatest desire of sentient awareness and the pinnacle of consciousness, driven by destiny and nature, as something we are called to experience. In this book, a vocabulary and basis to understand our authentic nature is revealed in a spiraling staircase of logic without esoteric obscurity. It’s as simple as the pause between thoughts and as profound as a surprise, which keeps you awake at night.

FOREWORD BY JOANNE MITCHELL
This book is a passion project. I have witnessed many years of perseverance and untold patience, with more rewrites than I could possibly count. My husband is a highly intelligent man, and the difficulty that he faced trying to grasp and understand The Lankavatara Sutra (Lanka) and its translations brought him to his knees in humility as it wrote him and evolved his being. Much more than a simple challenge, it may better be described as a calling, his life’s work, and he could no more give up than stop breathing.
I confess in the beginning, I did not get it, but my love and admiration for my husband kept me engaged and curious to see what so inspired him. This book seeks to make accessible an ancient work that tells a story, reveals many a truth, and shows scientific understanding we are only proving today. Science is anyway always a work in progress, and it takes imagination and curiosity to even start the scientific discovery with the necessary proof needed. As science evolves, so do we. Can we move from competition and individualism? I’m attracted to anything that strives to unite rather than divide us. This is where mythic and scientific fields meet; as we recognize things we label mystical may simply be things we can’t yet prove or understand.
Power, humility; wisdom; truth, rational thought, analytical processing, integrity, self-realization, clarity, equality, reverence for life, unity, passion, choice, and free will, our ultimate gift. So much wisdom is held for us to discover here. Perspective is everything; it determines how we view the world. Are we turning back or turning in? I see it as almost turning ourselves inside out. From this inner knowing, we get it, seeing all outside as an extension of self.
When the unfathomable fabric of our existence becomes impossible to describe with our limited language, I find evidence that poetry can touch a place and hold a space within which my own recognition of truth can emerge. The proof of the magic held in this work for me culminates in the final poem Only This Awareness ; I get this with great clarity. I realize that over the years watching this book unfold that I, too, have been changed and am now able to recognize what these master teachers of old found worthwhile protecting and preserving for posterity.
INTRODUCTION
BECOMING CURIOUS
Mo st of us question the nature of existence and feel what it means not to fit in at some point in our lives. These are the ultimate issues of our time that show our lack of purpose and social discontent, which curiously promotes war as an economic necessity. But this curiosity only serves to leave us with more questions.
This book will reveal an ancient science as documented at the end of the Buddhist golden age (500 BC–400 CE). As my most excellent teacher, writing this book has surprised me thousands of times, so I’ve tried to capture it where I could. Though researching a long-forgotten book may sound boring, it has opened many doors to creating a new life. Have you ever stopped to question “who you think you are” and how that’s serving you? Or maybe you wonder about the unexplainable power of manifestation. Is it just wishful thinking, or is it grounded in understanding?
But there’s no free ride. Understanding will require learning new concepts and perspectives. As these old ideas will be unusual to you, it is valuable to have a trick to recognize them, or you’ll lose the enthusiasm to carry on. Learning always replaces some previous assumption, and this displacement can only be verified when we are surprised; otherwise, you’re not learning! So, in reading something entirely new, you’ll need to suspend doubt and stay open. This openness will prove its value with each new surprise, and recognizing one will lead to another.
I will share extraordinary practical magic from a marketplace perspective. Unlike more contemplative texts, this book relates directly to worldly existence. My view is one of a simple yogi-householder, well-grounded in scientific materialism. My most kindred Zen teacher says it best.
Without any intentional, fancy way of adjusting yourself, to express yourself as you are is the most important thing.
Shunryu Suzuki Roshi, Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind
You won’t find meditation or spiritual practice taught in this book, though they are central to my life and this study. That is a personal choice, which generally comes out of need when you are ready. Also, many others are far more qualified to teach than I am. However, if you don’t already grasp a certain sacredness as a life-giving refuge, you have the possibility of great adventures still ahead. But these methods are technical and depend on the school. They are the subject for someone else whose qualifications and lineage fit the specific teaching. My offering is simply trying to share the understanding of a shocking body of work.
I wrote this book for myself, but I’m publishing it for you. Meditation, yoga, and mindfulness practices make my life better from two standpoints. First, it gives me an increasingly optimistic, accepting, and often humorous world perception. Second, I’m a kinder, more giving, and loving person, which can be quite a challenge for one raised to be a cowboy. Frankly, I like myself better with this aspect of life. In this way, I show gratitude for those who choose to share life with me.
Thirty-plus years ago, I wrote the following prose inspired by Harry Nilsson’s video The Point . If you feel some sense of surprise, this book may be helpful. It may help you understand what this book has to offer.

I see what I want to see;
I hear what I want to hear,
accountable for interpretation
and Creation, I am.
My undisciplined mind sees reality
through the reruns of experience.
My habitual thinking calls
a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Thinking habits must change,
past emotions must c orrupt
my present perception no more!
Not controlled or offended
I see you, eye to ey
