Description

Ballygobackwards Castle has more windows in the East Wing ground floor than on the upper. Why? There has to be a reason, with the awful smells coming through the walls. The 400 year old Castle has more secrets to reveal, George is asking the questions, Winter isn't revealing - yet.

The Missing Rooms
The two men had been trapped in the Castle for well over two hundred years. They were in limbo, nothing could be done to retrieve them. The plan had been for Winter to escort them to the next stage of their death, but he had been distracted. It had happened during a time of great activity for him, he had been answering the call continually elsewhere, so when it came to help them, he had been too late. The two men had been trying to help a baby crying in the locked room, but inevitably been trapped themselves. Despite the best efforts of their compatriots they had remained incarcerated within the walls for eternity. Their appearance was exactly the same as it had been the day of their confinement. An escort had arrived, guiding them through an undisclosed door into a passage. That had taken them into a secret part of the Castle no-one knew about, a section that had rooms without any illumination, so over the years their eyes had adjusted to the dark. They knew exactly where everything was, they needed no sustenance because they were in a suspended state.
They could move from room to room, but there was no exit. The passageway had sealed itself behind them, so that was barred. The spring door had suddenly trapped itself shut, that had been a moment of sheer terror for them. No implements in any of their new rooms, no access to the outside world, so as Winter was unwilling to come to their aid that was it. Of course, he knew they were there, as did Annie and Padraig, the Castle’s guardians. It wasn’t spoken about, there was nothing anyone could do, it was one of the Castle’s mysteries, of which there were many.
Their flesh was fresh, no deterioration, no extra facial hair, no nails growing, just two men living in perpetual darkness destined to spend the rest of eternity together. Occasionally they would shout, but the last time they had done that had been many years ago when they thought they could hear the baby crying again. There was no sense of time, so it might have been yesterday. They knew the baby was still there, ready for them should they exit into that room. It was all the baby’s fault, because their attempted rescue had placed them in this situation. They never spoke to each other, the power of speech had disappeared, but they knew how to shout. They breathed, because they were not quite dead. Yet. If they had been able to see each other they did not have the frightening appearance of wild men. Two men doomed to spend eternity in a capsule.
Unless someone came and rescued them.

Why was Ballygobackwards Castle out of alignment. It was something that had been bothering George for quite some time. He had been out for a stroll when a stone had lodged itself in his right boot. He had been about a quarter of a mile from the Castle at the time, sat on the edge of the gravel driveway, and after comfort had been restored sat there ruminating about his wonderful life. He had been staring at the Castle, quite aimless really, when it had occurred to him that the East wing was out of proportion. From the distance he tried to count the windows on the ground floor, then those on the one above, but each time he came to a different number.
George had a logical mind, when he set himself a puzzle such as this he knew there would be a sensible explanation. So far none. After pondering for a few days, he had decided the dilemma wasn’t particularly important in his life, was beginning to forget about it when he was caught in a storm not that far from the Castle.
