HAT

With 4.5mm (US 7) needles, cast on 80 sts. Join into round.

Work 2 inches in Seed Stitch in the Round. Purl one round for

turning. Continue in Seed Stitch in the Round until piece

measures 3 inches from cast on edge. Change to 5mm (US 8)

circular needle and Eyelet Pattern in the Round and continue

until piece measures 8 inches from cast on edge, ending on

Round 4 or 8 of pattern. Change to stocking stitch (knit every

round) and double pointed needles when necessary,

decreasing top as follows:

Round 1: *K6, K2tog* repeat from * to * to end.

Round 2: (and every following alternate round): Knit

Round 3: *K5, K2tog* repeat from * to * to end.

Round 5: *K4, K2tog* repeat from * to * to end.

Round 7: *K3, K2tog* repeat from * to * to end.

Round 9: *K2, K2tog* repeat from * to * to end.

Round 11: *K1, K2tog* repeat from * to * to end.

Round 13: *K2tog* repeat from * to * to end.

Cut yarn, draw through remaining stitches. Fasten securely.

SCARF:

With 5mm (US 8) needles cast on 46 sts. Work 2.5 inches in

Seed Stitch ending on a wrong side row. Keeping 9 sts at the

beginning and ened of each row in Seed Stitch, change to

Eyelet Pattern over centre 28 sts. Work until piece measures

approximately 57.5 inches from cast on edge. Change to Seed

Stitch across all sts and work until piece measures 60 inches

from cast on edge. Cast off.
