Curriculum: Candidates for the Diploma will be required to complete eight 15 credit modules or their equivalent; normally four in the first semester and four in the second semester. Candidates for the Masters degree are also required to submit a dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words on an approved topic on the date prescribed by the Graduate School Code of Practice. (i) Assessment will be by course work for each module, to be completed at the end of each module. (ii) Candidates may be permitted resubmission on one occasion only of course work and the dissertation not exceeding 60 credits in total. (iii) Where a candidate fails a module having previously resubmitted modules totalling 60 credits, the registration of that candidate will be terminated but the Board of Examiners must first consider whether transfer to the Diploma is appropriate. (iv) Candidates who attain a sufficiently high standard in the course work may be permitted to submit a dissertation on an approved topic for the degree of Master of Laws or Master of Arts. The dissertation will carry a credit rating of 60 credits. Qualifications Awarded: (i) Candidates who accumulate 15 credits from the taught modules (that is excluding the dissertation) and satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the taught modules will be awarded a certificate in each such named module (ii) Candidates who accumulate 120 credits in the taught modules (that is, excluding dissertation) and satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the taught modules will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma. Candidates who accumulate 120 credits at least 90 of which are drawn from one of the specialist pathways below (including where appropriate those modules that are prescribed to be compulsory for that pathway) satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the taught modules and will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in that pathway. (iii) Candidates who accumulate 180 credits, satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the taught modules and submit a satisfactory dissertation will be awarded the degree of Master of Laws or Master of Arts. Candidates who accumulate 180 credits at least 90 of which are drawn from one of the specialist pathways below (including where appropriate those modules that are prescribed to be compulsory for that pathway), satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the taught modules and submit a satisfactory dissertation will be awarded a Master of Laws or Master of Arts in that specialism.

LL.M./Postgraduate Diploma in European Higher Legal Studies Period of Registration: Two years full-time Entry Requirements: Candidates should have a first or a good second class honours degree in law or an equivalent degree where law is a substantial element or an equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline or be qualified as a barrister or solicitor or have an equivalent qualification. Aims and Objectives: • To enable students to study across a wide range of postgraduate law modules and to provide opportunities to study related topics in greater depth and detail than is possible at undergraduate level. • To enable students to acquire and develop expertise in one of the chosen pathways at Leicester or in a more general fashion. • To enable students to acquire and develop expertise in a range of modules taught in two law faculties on the European continent. • To enable students to acquire and develop knowledge of foreign legal systems and foreign languages in the two external law faculties chosen. • To raise students' ability to initiate and carry out independent research to a professional standard. • To foster students' independent thinking and judgement, and to further their skills in critical analysis, writing, and bibliography and research methods. • To equip students with relevant oral presentation skills. • To prepare students for future career and/or further postgraduate work by enhancing he following transferable skills accessing, retrieving, organising and presenting information from a variety of sources; thinking clearly and independently; presenting complex ideas and arguments clearly and effectively in both written and verbal forms; writing and presenting to a professional standard; solving technical and

intellectual problems in the most effective way; working with others in gathering, analysing and discussing information; managing and organising time; using up to date Information Technology.
Curriculum: • Year One (Leicester) Students select modules totalling 120 credits from among those available to campus-based students undertaking the LLM/MA programme. • Year Two (abroad) Students must follow in successive semesters an approved study option* (taught course only, or research only, or a mixture of the two) involving study in two of the Law Faculties of Consortium partners. Candidates for the master's degree are also required to follow a period of directed study at Leicester and to submit a dissertation not exceeding 15,000 words in length on an approved topic. Assessment: (i) Assessment at the University of Leicester will be by course work for each module, to be completed at the end of each module. (ii) Candidates may be permitted resubmission on one occasion only of course work and the dissertation not exceeding 60 credits in total. (iii) Where a candidate fails a module having previously resubmitted modules totalling 60 credits, the registration of that candidate shall be terminated but the Board of Examiners must first consider whether transfer to the Diploma is appropriate. (ii) Candidates who accumulate 300 credits, satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the taught modules and submit a satisfactory dissertation will be awarded the degree of Master of Laws. * "Approved study option" means one approved by the Board of the Faculty of Law on the recommendation of the course director, LLM and Postgraduate Diploma in European Higher Legal Studies after consultation with the appropriate authorities of the Consortium Faculty in question.

M.A./LL.M./Postgraduate Diploma (European) Entry Requirements: Candidates should have a first or a good second class honours degree in law or an equivalent degree where law is a substantial element or an equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline or be qualified as a barrister or solicitor or have an equivalent qualification. Candidates holding a degree in Law or a degree where Law is a substantial element will be registered for the LL.M; all other candidates will be given the option to register for either the M.A. or LL.M. Certain modules are available only to students who hold a degree in Law (or where Law is a substantial element) or an appropriate legal professional qualification). Candidates who wish to study at a partner or associated Faculty where teaching is not in English must provide evidence of satisfactory proficiency in the relevant second language(s). Period of Registration: One year full-time Course Aims: The aims of the course are to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of selected areas of study, to enhance awareness of the interrelation between legal areas and the broader context within which the law operates, to provide the opportunity for advanced study of specialist areas of law in other European states and to develop research skills. Curriculum: Candidates for the Diploma will be required to complete the equivalent of eight 15 credit modules; four in the first semester and the equivalent of four in the second semester. During the first semester candidates must follow the curriculum for one of the specialist streams below. During the second semester candidates must follow an approved curriculum at one of the partner or associated Faculties. Candidates for the Masters degree are also required to follow a period of directed study at Leicester and to submit a dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words on an approved topic on the date prescribed by the Code of Practice. Assessment: First semester modules will be assessed by written coursework of up to 5000 words. Second semester modules will be assessed according to the mode chosen by the relevant partner or associated Faculty. Qualification Awarded: (i) Candidates who accumulate 120 credits or their equivalent and satisfy the examiners in the assessment requirement for each of the taught modules (i.e. not including the dissertation) will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in their chosen specialism. (ii) Candidates who accumulate 180 credits or their equivalent, satisfy the examiners in the assessment requirement for each of the taught modules and submit a satisfactory dissertation will be awarded either the degree of Master of Laws or Master of Arts in their chosen specialism.
