Due to the dynamicnature of digital media, and to a wide variety of clients connected to di erent displaydevices, the decision of how to lay out the information tailored to the current scenariobecomes a challenging task. In order to e ectively address this issue, digital documentsneed automated processes to produce dynamic design solutions. This thesis presents anovel approach to create automated layouts that could adapt according to the screen sizeand contextual requirements. The focus of the research is to develop layout adaptationtechniques for rich illustrative material which the users can interact with. The adaptiontec not only consider the global layout decisions for elements on the screen, butalso deal with the content and layout adaptation of individual illustrations in the layout.
