Dr. Michael DettweilerAbstractThis work presents a di erence geometric approach to the strongly normal Galois theoryof di erence equations. In this approach, a system of ordinary di erence equations isencoded in a di erence extension, and the Galois groups are group schemes of nite typeover the constants. The Galois groups need neither be linear nor reduced. The mainresult is a characterization of the extensions that admit a reasonable Galois theory by anormality property. This approach has been inspired by the recent work of J. Kovacicon the di erential Galois theory of strongly normal extensions.
