Lamare-Picquot, pharmacist, was born in Bayeux on October 1st, 1785. After having practiced his profession in Saint-Malo, he established a dispensary on the Isle of Maurice in 1815. From there, he undertook frequent trips to neighboring islands, and went to India in 1828. When he returned to France he exhibited his collections and edited his first scientific memoirs. From 1841 to 1848 he made two exploratory voyages to North America, and brought back with him from the upper Mississippi the « Picquotiane » (Psoralea esculenta) to replace the simple potato as well as other tuberous vegetables. He retired to Bayeux to develop the practical uses of his discoveries, under the most difficult material conditions. He died peacefully in the city of his birth on the 1st of May, 1873. Nachdem er diesen Beruf in Saint-Malo ausgeübt hatte, gründete er 1815 eine Apotheke auf der Mauritius Insel. Von dort unternahm er öfters Reisen in die benachbarten Inseln und nach Indien 1828. Nach Frankreich zurückgekehrt, stellte er seine Sammlungen aus und verfasste seine ersten wissenschaftlichen Abhandlungen. Von 1841 bis 1848 erkundete er Nord-Amerika anlässlich zweier Reisen, und brachte aus dem Hoch-Mississippi die « Picquotiane » (Psoralea esculenta) mit, um die Kartoffel zu ersetzen, sowie andere essbare Knollen. Endlich zog er sich nach Bayeux zurück und arbeitete an der praktischen Anwendung seiner Entdeckungen unter öfters sehr peinlichen materiellen Bedingungen. Er starb, unauffällig, in seiner Vaterstadt am 1.
