The future patriarch Methodius wrote three successive pamphlets prophesying the deaths of Leo V, Michael II, and Theophilus, the second of which survives today as the Slavonic Daniel. Methodius gained access to Theophilus by fabricating another prophecy, and Photius later imitated this subterfuge to gain access to Basil I.
