Description

Alice is stuck on earth and there’s no way back to heaven. She finds herself floating back to her college campus and when her friend Milly doesn’t seem to care that she’s dead, she begins to lose her sanity. When a resident ghost at the college warns her about the path of revenge she is taking, it becomes startlingly obvious that Alice may already be too far gone. But when a familiar face shows up from heaven, Alice starts to realize just how far she has fallen. The question is, though, is it already too late for her? Has she already fallen too far to be saved?

INSPIRING WORDS
“Redemption is not perfection. The redeemed must realize their imperfections.”
- John Piper
CHAPTER 1

Three days had passed since I’d died for the second time. The hope I’d had for the big white light showing up was starting to fade at an alarming rate.
I’d watched as the paramedics had arrived to check out my body. It hadn’t taken them more than a minute or two to figure out I was dead. The sounds from Peter’s mom, the sounds of her heart breaking, was the worst thing about it all. It was like she was unwilling to believe what had happened until the paramedic had confirmed that my heart had stopped beating.
“Why has this happened?” she asked her husband desperately. “I don’t understand how this could have happened.”
“Sometimes bad things happen for no reason,” Peter’s dad tried to comfort her. I could see the horror in his eyes, though. He’d never before seen a person look as I did as I went from person to corpse. He’d never seen the life of a girl pooling into his bathtub. It was going to be something that would haunt him for the rest of his life. It was going to be something which ran alongside the nightmares of losing his son, as an unhappy reminder that some life can only end in devastation.
The police arrived soon after the paramedics. They taped off the bathroom and took pictures of the scene so they could refer back to them when writing up the case about my death. They spoke about everything with professionalism.
I was surprised in a way. I’d always thought that they probably just chatted away or listened to music or something when they were examining straight forward cases like mine, but they took everything seriously. They bagged up every piece of evidence they could find and they dusted the gun so that they could pull any prints that were on it, before they bagged it up as well.
I found myself following Peter’s parents out of the bathroom so I could listen to the statements that they gave. A friendly looking police woman with a tight blonde bun and wide hips was writing down everything that they said on a note pad she had in her hands.
“Her boyfriend died just under a week ago,” Peter’s mom said weakly. “It was my son, he had cancer and he just, I guess he just couldn’t fight against it any longer.”
“Do you think that she was upset about this?” the police woman asked. I stared at her in disbelief. Was I upset that my boyfriend had died? Yes, I was, just a bit.
“Well, I know that they were very close and I think it hit her hard,” Peter’s dad said, when he realized that his wife could go no further. Her shoulders rose and fell softly, as she cried silent tears. “Our minister said that she’d spoken to him about the funeral. He’d told me that she was carrying a lot of guilt over not being by Peter’s side when he died, which was ridiculous.” He waited until the woman had had a chance to write everything down, then drew a shaky breath and said, “Peter loved that girl. She had nothing to feel guilty about.
