PREFACE Islam is the last divine religion. The holy book of Islam is theHoly Quran,whose revelation to Prophet Muhammad began in A. D. 610 at Makkah, now a large city in Saudi Arabia. The revelation of theHoly Quranwent on for twenty-three years until the death of Prophet Muhammad at the age of sixty- three. TheHoly Quranis considered to be the first source of Islam. The second source is the sayings of Prophet Muhammad. iii

Prophet Muhammad is the last prophet sent by God; no prophet will come after him. TheHoly Quranis the last revealed book; no book will be revealed after it. Islam is a religion for all humans, not for a certain area, country, or race. Islam is a comprehensive religion that addresses itself to all basic aspects of human life. Muslims nowadays are about 1.3 billion people, about one fourth of the world population, and Islam is spreading quickly everywhere, including Europe and America.
