1990 Argentinian Claudio Caniggia’s 67th-minute headed goal against Italy in the semi-finals finally put an end to goalkeeper Walter Zenga’srecord-breaking run of 517 minutes without concedinga FIFA World Cup record which is still intact.2010 Thomas Mueller’s opener against Argentina was Germany's 200th World Cup goal. The Germans were the second team to reach this landmark. Iker Casillas became the third goalkeeper to save two penalties in the World Cup but the first to do so in two different editions, having saved Ian Harte’s penalty in 2002. Poland’s Jan Tomaszewski (1974) and American Brad Friedel (2002) are the other two keepers to have saved two spot-kicks.

Match facts for BrazilColombia Brazil largely dominated in the 25 previous meetings between the two sides, winning 15, drawing eight and losing two. All four of the most recent encounters between 2004 and 2012 ended drawn, including three World Cup qualifiers followed by a friendly match played in 2012. The first three fixtures finished 0-0, whereas the last game in New York ended 1-1 after Juan Cuadrado and Neymar had found the net. Colombia’s last victory over Brazil dates back to 13 July 1991 in the Copa America, when goals from Anthony De Avila and Arnoldo Iguaran helpedLos Cafeterossecure a 2-0 victory in Vina del Mar. Since then the Colombians have racked up five draws and seven defeats againstASeleção.In nine matches played on Brazilian soil, Colombia have mustered just three 0-0 draws and six defeats. The Colombians failed to score in the last three of those encounters, having netted their last goal in 1995 during a 3-1 friendly defeat in Manaus. Brazil’s most recent World Cup defeat against South American opposition came in the 1990 campaign, when they were eliminated 1-0 by Argentina in the Round of 16. Since then the Brazilians have faced only Chile, winning two out of three meetings and squeezing through on penalties in the Round of 16 at this edition. Of the eight quarter-finalists, Colombia are one of four teams that have won all four of their matches played to date. Brazil have registered the joint-fewest victories with two, plus two draws, the same as Costa Rica. The only South American team that Colombia have faced before in the World Cup are Uruguay, against whom the Colombians won 2-0 in the Round of 16 of this campaign and lost 2-1 in 1962. This is the second South American derby to be played out in a World Cup quarter-final. The first and only one to date was Brazil-Peru in 1970, which finished 4-1 to the Brazilians. Jose Pekerman is unbeaten in nine World Cup appearances as a coach, having recorded seven wins and two draws. By contrast, Luiz Felipe Scolari is second in the tournament’s all-time win ranking, level with German tactician Helmut Schon on 13 and three behind fellow Brazilian Mario Zagallo.

Match facts for FranceGermany France lead the 25-match overall series between the sides, with 11 wins to Germany’s eight, plus six draws. Thepair’s first showdown dates back to 15 March 1931, when France prevailed 1-0 in a friendly match. TM The teams have locked horns only three times in competitive fixtures and always in the FIFA World Cup. France prevailed 6-3 in the match for third place in 1958, when Just Fontaine scored four goals. Thereafter the sides contested the first penalty shoot-out in the competition’s history during the 1982 semi-finals, which Germany won following a 3-3 draw after extra time. Another semi-final skirmish followed four years later, resulting in a 2-0 German victory. Those World Cup encounters were also the pair’s only meetings on neutral territory. The teams have an even head-to-head record in their last three friendly matches played since 2005. A 0-0 draw in 2005 preceded a 2-1 French victory on German soil in 2012, when Olivier Giroud, Laurent Malouda and Cacau were on target, before Germany won 2-1 in France following goals from Mathieu Valbuena, Thomas Muller and Sami Khedira. France have kept clean sheets in their last two games.Les Bleusnever managed to go three World Cup have matches without conceding a goal. Since Brazil defeated them in the 2002 Final, Germany have lost another three World Cup games, all at the hands of European sides. Their opponents were Italy in 2006, followed by Serbia and Spain in 2010. If selected, Miroslav Klose will make his 22nd World Cup match and move up to second in the tournament appearance ranking for German players, behind Lothar Matthaus (25) and one in front of Uwe Seeler. The forward would be placed third in the overall ranking, behind Matthaus and Italy’s Paolo Maldini (23).
