Steve Gregoire From Your Secretary Hello everybody, starting this month we are going to start doing the newsletter monthly again. Our goal is to keep this club moving and well informed. It is kind of difficult to keep up to date on threemonth intervals… (Heck most of us have a hard time remembering yesterday) The one thing we do remember is our love of real music. We may not be able to remember our loved ones birthday or anniversaries, but we can remember where we were, when we first heard our favorite songs from the 50’s and 60’s. It is all about us now… I would like to report that since I have taken over responsibility for membership in February, we have lost 30 members. BUT, we have gotten 48 new members, which includes approximately 12 that have re joined. Welcome new members and welcome back to our friends that came back. It is greatly appreciated. This club is not only about the music, it is also about friends, old friends we have and new friends we’ll meet. Friends that share the same love for the best era in history, Oldies and DooWop.NOTE:Please let me know if you are not receiving correspondence via email or postal, as I may not have the correct information. If anything changes please let me know so I can update my list.  Thankyou, Linda JUNE PICNIC If you missed our picnic you missed a great time. We had the pleasure of being in the company of the Custom Car Classics. A lot of memories there and some really nice looking cars… Patricia Moerdyke won, not only “split the pot” but she also won a very nice hand knitted American flag that we raffled off, so we know she had an eventful day. We were entertained by The CODA Band, who always does a great job entertaining us. Bobby Lewis and his guest, Cathi Rice, did a few songs and did them quite well. We had plenty of good food and a wide variety, (recipes will be in the cookbook.) Most of all we had a lot of great friends and family to make it a wonderful day.
JULY SOCIAL th The “Crystals” on July 12at our Sunday Social were very energetic, after traveling all night to get here, put on a terrific show. “The ladies have still got it…” Maybe they will come back someday. Our own Bobby Lewis and Cathi Rice (now they are known as “Dirty Rice”) opened for the Crystals and did a splendid job. We’ll be seeing more of them around. AUGUST SOCIAL If you were at the Social in August our own CODA Band did a superb job. They have been working very hard learning new music for our enjoyment, and I for one am very proud of them. (My favorite so far is “The Ten Commandments of Love”). Of course, we have “funky” Chuck Zimmerman to keep the entertainment going. All in all, we have “one helluva” band. HE’S ONE OF OURSIn August, one of our most loved and dedicated members and a friend,Wiley Bowling, underwent a triple bypass operation. Thanks to some fine doctors and prayers, I am happy to report he is doing fine. I am told that when he first went to emergency, and told that they were going to admit him, his main concern was he had planned to go ride his motorcycle with Chalk Sexton… (Men have a lot to learn about priorities…) With that attitude, he’ll be up and around in no time. (NOTE) Just spoke to Wiley on the phone and he said he is feeling fine and looking forward being back around in 5 or 6 weeks. He sends his thanks to everyone for their concern, and prayers. Did you know?At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank from pint and quart-sized containers. A bar maid's job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in 'pints' and who was drinking in 'quarts,' hence the term 'minding your'P's and Q's 'This next article was formed at one of our Board Meetings when the question was “who is _______?” (can’t remember who the person was) and Harold came up with posting something in the newsletter introducing individuals (especially since we are accruing new people) so we can get to know them and vice versa. Good idea… if you would like to get to know someone or want us to know you better, I will be glad to do an article. I would like to have a picture to include with the article. And please, an up to date photo or we will have to change the article to “Can you pick this person out of the crowd?” Ummmmmmm, another idea! I first met these people at “The Skyliner’s” Concert in April 2005. Very nice people, they love the music and were excited about joining CODA. So allow me to introduce Charles & Pat Davis from Troy, Ohio…  Weare Pat & Charlie Davis and we were born and raised around Miami County. While we have no children, we have two orphans we rescued. One is a Bassett Hound and the other is Dachshund & Chihuahua mixed. We love oldies and all animals. We actually had two capuchin monkeys for 13 years.  Charliewas a 50’s & 60’s DJ for 15 years and he spun the 45’s on turntables. We didn’t have a weekend off for 15 years. We are enjoying being retired and letting someone else entertain us now.  Wewere thrilled to become CODA members. We found out that we were not alone or considered living in the past with the music we love.  Charliehad a herd of show cattle when we met and we continued to do that for several years. Then we got into fishing and both have become Master Anglers from Lake Erie.
Recentlywe have been remodeling our home, (we live in Troy, Ohio) both inside and out. This has been going on since January and it is now July and we are still straightening things up. We were married 5 days before Christmas in 1968 and we are still going strong after 40 years of marriage. Thank you,Charlie and Pat ANNOUNCEMENT Coming in November we will be hosting the fabulous “Marcel’s” at Jim & Jack’s. Opening act will be a great group called The Regency’s. Show starts at 8:30 P.M.
