59 Per Cent of Brits Have No Will
PR Newswire PETERBOROUGH, England, November 29, 2012
PETERBOROUGH, England,November 29, 2012/PRNewswire/ --
73 per cent of people 'living as married' leave partners at risk Beagle Street to offer free will writing service for customers
A survey of more than 2,000 people acrossBritain* has revealed that 59 per cent of adults do not currently have a will.
When asked the reason for this, over one in five (23%) respondents without a will gave the reason as'not having very much to put into a will', closely followed by the views that'everything will automatically go to a spouse/civil partner/partner/children'(20%). Worryingly, 73 per cent of those currently'living as married'said they did not have a will in place - leaving them dangerously exposed. U nder current law, should one die, their partner is not automatically entitled to the estate.
Young people between the ages of 18-24 were unsurprisingly the least likely to have a will (2%), closely followed by 25-34s (10%) and the 35-44 age group (25%).
Reassuringly, of those who did have a will in place, 44 per cent had reviewed the details in the past three years, meaning that the documents were more likely to be up-to-date and relevant.
The research was conducted on behalf of Beagle Street, a new life insurance brand that sets new standards for the purchase of life cover in the UK. Offering instant cover online athttp://www.beaglestreet.com, Beagle Street dramatically reduces the time needed to take out a policy by using innovative technology, simple, jargon-free language and eliminating the need for medicals. This level of simplicity means that the customer saves on their premium. Beagle Street has recently launched a free will writing service for policy holders who buy direct at http://www.beaglestreet.com(terms and conditions apply)in a bid to offer its customers even more protection for loved ones.
"Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult life events, so it is worrying to see so many people don't see the benefits of having a will in place," commented Matthew Gledhill, Director of Beagle Street.
"At a very difficult time, it is enormously helpful to have some idea of the person's wishes regarding their estate. It can also avoid lengthy admin with banks and other legal/financial institutions. Having a will drawn up is a relatively simple process and one that can help make things far smoother for family and friends left behind. Our aim is to make life insurance as simple as possible, but we saw the opportunity to help customers with another important area."
Any new Beagle Street customers who purchase a policy direct fromhttp://www.beaglestreet.comwill now be offered a free will writing service.
