LONDON,August 9, 2012/PRNewswire/ -- Political Animal Lobby (PAL) has launched its high-profile 'Badgering Dave' campaign to object to Cameron's proposed badger cull which is scheduled to get underway from next month.The plans will kill potentially thousands of badgers, a protected species in the UK, in large areas across parts of south westEnglandin a misguided attempt by the Government to eradicate bovine TB (bTB).

In PAL's 'Badgering Dave' campaign, a billboard sized message warning David Cameron to "Get Orff Our Badgers Dave" accompanied by a cartoon depiction of David Cameron having a discussion with HM The Queen about badgers was driven aroundLondonand David Cameron's constituency town of Witney in Oxfordshirelast week. PAL founder, Brian Davies, said:"Once again, David Cameron has demonstrated a complete lack of empathy with British animal lovers and with the creatures we share this island with. "This time it is a national icon in the animal world that is under attack by Cameron with his plan to kill some 40,000 badgers for no other reason, given the science against such a cull, than to pander to the National Farmers Union.' He continued, "He will pay a price for his insensitivity at the polling booth if PAL has its way.We will be a terrier nipping at his heels until then." In addition to sending the message on a giant billboard aroundLondonand David Cameron's constituency, PAL has also displayed the advert in a series of high-profile ad campaigns across the British media including The Observer, The

Spectator, Private Eye and The House Magazine, which is read by members of parliament. Among the places the 'Badgering Dave' billboard van was photographed and filmed was at the pub near his Chequers home where David Cameron infamously accidentally left behind his eight year old daughter, Nancy, following a pub lunch which was reported in June this year. The 'message to Cameron' van also drove aroundLondonlandmarks including the Houses of Parliament and Millbank.The hoarding caused embarrassment to Cameron in his constituency town of Witney where it appeared outside his constituency office, which is ironically next to a shop called 'Badgers' and outside his home in Dean and in nearby Chipping Norton.Moving images can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/badgeringdave. Bovine TB is reportedly carried through badgers to cattle, but the Government appointed Independent Scientific Group's study on bTB concluded that the culling of badgers was not only an ineffective solution but could actually make the problem worse by scattering infected badgers into other areas. Despite this the cull is still set to go ahead with a new, untested method.It is also considered grossly inhumane as badgers are likely to endure a slow and painful death due to their anatomical make up unless the shot is completely accurate which, for a badger which is a nocturnal animal, is often unlikely. PAL is calling on Cameron to adopt instead a comprehensive vaccination programme for badgers and to support the lifting of an EU ban on the vaccination of cattle in order to allow this harmless, peaceful and protected species to continue thriving in our English countryside.This will help both the badgers and protectBritain'scows from contracting bTB - a situation only brought about by cost-cutting changes to farming methods and not through any fault of badgers themselves.
