PR Newswire LONDON, July 26, 2012
LONDON,July 26, 2012/PRNewswire/ --Britons are still behind on saving the planet and many are failing to monitor their energy usage, according to a new survey. Findings by Age UK, who conducted the study, reveal that Britons are still clueless about how to cut their bills and 42% don't take necessary steps to reduce energy consumption. Back in the 1950's, 88% of people took measures to cut the amount of energy they used whereas in the present day only 83% implement changes in the home to try and reduce energy consumption. However, there has been some improvement. Today 83% turn off the radio and television when it is not in use in contrast to 66% 60-years-ago. The popularity in loft insulation has risen too with 60% of Britons undertaking the energy-efficient solution compared to just 7% in the 1950's. Gordon Morris, Managing director at Age UK Enterprise (that is part of the Age UK charity) said: "It's great to see that nearly everyone is trying to conserve resources by installing energy-efficient technologies such as roof insulation. "But by far the most important step in reducing electricity consumption is being aware of how much is used and which day-to-day activities use the most electricity." It was about sixty years ago when the UK Government started to push the importance of saving energy by introducing a campaign to get the whole of Britain Eco-friendly. Over the last sixty years Brits have been trying to cut emissions by turning the TV off properly, switching lights off, fitting insulation and shutting doors and windows.
