There are babies being born every second all over the world. The birth of each baby is special, and is reason enough for the near ones to celebrate. With more couples entrusting the delicate care of their newborns to Cloudnine, the hospital has emerged as theLARGEST provider of advanced maternaland neonatal care in South India now with nearly 150 beds dedicated to w oman care and 50 beds for premmie babiesbased on their success and demand for further such care in Bangalore and aTEAM of 19 NEONATOLOGISTS available round the clock to take care of the premmie babies.
"At Cloudnine, we can proudly say that we are the only Group where doctors across all our centres have cared for over amillion babiesin their lifetime," says Mr Rohit M.A, Director, Cloudnine Hospitals Group-A Hospital with ZERO percent mortality for womenand 99.83% survival for babies.
While some babies grow healthy after a full term, some are not so lucky either due to lack of emergency medical environment at their premature birth or unavailability of qualified, skilled doctors in the right time. It can be very traumatic for the family when their bundle of joy decides to come into the world earlier than planned. 'Premmies' or premature babies are a challenge for the most skilled obstetricians. But doctors at Cloudnine have no such apprehensions.
"Having delivered so many babies in the last few years since existence and having done thousands of complicated gynecological and laparoscopic surgeries, Cloudnine is proud to say that they haveNOT lost a SINGLE mother, achieving ZERO percent mortality among women- which can only be dreamt of by other hospitals to achieve this and 99.83% survival for babies including extreme premature babies. No wonder thattwo years in a row we have been voted BEST MATERNAL and NEWBORN care hosp ital," saysan elated Dr R Kishore Kumar, Consultant Neonatologist & Paediatrician, and CEO & MD, Cloudnine Hospital Group.
He further stated, "More than 120 babies born less than 28 weeks and are doing well (Intact survival - which means NO disability due to prematurity) in five and a half years -a remarkable achievement especially with our survival statistics of 99.83% for babies."
"Indian law says less than 28 weeks is not viable and we have changed that as per International standards in Cloudnine. Many of our parents are so happy that they are not part of the Indian statistics for death but for survival," he adds.
Mothers who had their babies under the most delicate health conditions for both themselves and their newborns speak about their wonderful experiences at Cloudnine.
Mamata Ramesh, German language instructor, had a normal pregnancy, but her baby was born unexpectedly 10 weeks premature. Not only was the newborn in a delicate condition, doctors discovered that her food pipe was not connected to her stomach.
"Dr Kishore informed us that the baby needed surgery within 24 hours or would not survive. Since she w as a premature baby, we were prepared for the worst," Mamata says with emotion, as she recalls the day at C loudnine, Jayanagar.
The baby was kept in the Neonatal ICU for 60 days after the emergency surgery by paediatric surgeon DrS. Ramesh and was monitored round the clock by Dr Kishore and his team. "Since the baby was in the NICU, we could not stay in the hospital. We would visit through the day and the doctors and their team gave us a day-by-day update on the progress, giving us hope," she adds.
"The child is an active five-year-old now and only had to go in for an endoscopy in the first year after the surgery. She was one of our FIRST successes 5 years ago and now we have such stories to share almost every week -which is so gratifying," says Dr Kishore with a sense of professional satisfaction. Dr Nandini, Senior Neonatologist at Cloudnine adds, "We remember Mamata very well - she had to WAIT for 16 days before she heard her baby's FIRST CRY - which lot of parents take for granted."
Meghana Avinash, married for 13 years, suffered from a thyroid problem and was unable to conceive. When she did conceive - she lost her baby at 39 weeks elsewhere. "When I went to the US, I conceived twins but the uterus
ruptured in the seventh month and was advised not to have a baby," she reveals. "I returned to Bangalore and met Dr Prakash Kini, gynaecologist at Cloudnine, Jayanagar. I was 34 years old and informed him about the doctor's warning when I was in the US. But he allayed my fears.Due to Dr Kini's efforts and reassurance, I had my baby at 38 weeks. While other doctors gave up hope, I am grateful to Dr Kiniand Cloudnine for introducing me to this wonderful world of motherhood," Meghana adds.
29-year-old Rashmi went into labour at 26 weeks."Though doctors at Cloudnine tried to stop the labour, I delivered my baby prematurely. I was worried because I was aware that babies born less than 28 weeks did not have a fair chance according to almost everyone I spoke to - except Dr Kishore who informed us that the first 15 days were crucial. We could not sleep nor stay at the hospital because my son was in the NICU, but what made it better is thatALL the doctors and nurses in Cloudnine are so down to earth, humble, approachable and always ready to answer any queries we had,"she recalls. She had heard of the success stories at Cloudnine and this uplifted her hope. "Because of the delicate care and concern by Dr Nandini, Dr Girish, Dr Kishore, and the entire NICU team of nurses who looked after my baby round the clock, my baby was discharged from the N ICU well before the due date. Today my baby has completed 2 months and is doing well and we continue to get the 7 star treatment which was unthinkable for babies like mine till Cloudnine started here," says Rashmi cheerfully.
"I never knew I had polycystic ovarian disorder because of which I had irregular periods and weight gain," informs 25- year-old Lekha Patel. "I weighed 94 kgs and hence could not conceive. I went in for diet control for weight loss from Cloudnine dietitians and conceived," she says. Lekha was in consultation with Cloudnine Obstetricians for two years and they guided her throughout her pregnancy. "What fascinated me was that the Obstetricians there are really a TEAM and are available 24/7 and 366 days a year- they all work together to give us the best results. I now weigh 65 kgs and am a mother of a bonny two-month-old," she smiles, adding that she also enrolled for the prenatal and lactation classes conducted by Cloudnine.
'Full fledged Neonatal ICU - world of delicate care'
The state-of-the-art level 5 NICU equipped with the advanced technology provides care for premature infants and critically ill newborn babies. We take pride in proclaiming that fraternal quadruplets or babies as young as 24 weeks of gestation weighing 650 grams have been very well looked after by us.
The Neonatal Unit has facilities to care for babies requiring ventilation, High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation and Nitric Oxide among other facilities to treat sick babies. Cloudnine provides specialized nursery care for babies from 24 weeks gestation onwards with good neurological outcome so far. Having a premature baby is very stressful - and every mother goes through at least 4 psychological stress levels - first being why me and will my baby survive - and at Cloudnine - the specialized team understands all these and more as that's all they do everyday. So why go anywhere else for your high risk pregnancies - when you have such specialized care like in any developed country? By the time they are ready to go home with their precious bundle - they are anxious again - now wondering how they cope - hence we EDUCATE them with our MBA (Management of Baby Affairs Classes) and also CPR training to make them deal with any emergencies - and thus they become very confident Cloudnine parents.
Dr Kishore states, "We see an average of 40 to 50 parents who bring their baby to see us for follow up because of our popular neonatal follow up and some of the parents who have delivered elsewhere after having met our Cloudnine parents realize that they are less confident parents and also realize they have missed the C loudnine experience of a lifetime."
