Dalian Wanda Group to Support Chinese Artist at Paris Exhibition

PR Newswire

BEIJING, Nov. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dalian Wanda Group Co., Ltd. ("Wanda"), a leading Chinese private conglomerate and China's largest investor in cultural and entertainment activities, will sponsor a Chinese artist at an exhibition in Paris next month in an effort to foster appreciation of Chinese painting and to build the Group's reputation as a cultural ambassador and supporter of the arts.

The artist, Shi Qi, was invited to exhibit his work by the Societe des Artistes Francais, an association of French painters and sculptors. Shi Qi has been painting since the 1970s, but the Paris exhibition will mark the first time his work has been exhibited in Europe.

A longtime supporter of the arts, Wanda Group is committed to identifying and promoting important contemporary Chinese painters to audiences around the world. Since the 1990s the Group has sponsored various artists at exhibitions in China and abroad. In 2004, Wanda Group was invited by the Chinese Ministry of Culture to participate in the activities of The Year of France in China. It also sponsored an exhibition featuring the works of contemporary Chinese painter Wu Guanzhong at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris.

In 2005, Wanda began investing in cultural industries, and to date has developed nine lines of business in this area: cinema operations, film production, film studio facilities and sets, film distribution, theatrical productions, special effects /film technology, theme parks, news media, and calligraphy and painting collections.

Wanda Group's revenue from cultural enterprises is expected to reach 22 billion RMB (US$3.5 billion) in 2012, placing the Group among the top 40 highest-earning such enterprises worldwide. Revenue is projected to reach 40 billion RMB (US$6.4 billion) by 2016 and 80 billion RMB (US$12.8 billion) by 2020.

Shi Qi's paintings will be on exhibit along with the work of other artists from December 13 to December 24 at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris.
