PR Newswire

Elsevier, world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, and the Institution of Structural Engineers, the world's leading professional body for qualifications and standards in structural engineering, announce their collaboration to publish Structures, a new online peer-reviewed journal covering the full breadth of structural engineering research.

Combining the depth of structural engineering research activity from within the Institution's membership, contributions from non-member world-leading researchers and Elsevier's track record in publishing innovation, Structures aspires to quickly become a high-impact journal of choice for researchers in the field.

Uniquely, Structures seeks to emphasise the applicability of its research articles to current and future practice; making research findings both relevant and available to the widest possible audience.

The new journal will be led by Editor-in-Chief; Professor Leroy Gardner (Imperial College London) and supported by a world-class editorial board. Day-to-day publishing support will be provided by both the Institution and Elsevier.

Papers are accepted from, but not limited, to the following subject areas: structural engineering; materials; structural design; construction engineering; structural innovation; extreme events; sustainability; architectural topics (that impact structural performance) and other related areas.

Martin Powell, the Institution of Structural Engineers' Chief Executive, said of the collaboration, "With members operating in both academia and professional practice, the Institution of Structural Engineers has for many years been exceptionally well placed to support the migration of practical based research into construction applications. The launch of Structures will be an important step in our ongoing quest to raise the levels of support we can offer and we are delighted to be able to accomplish this working together with world-class publisher Elsevier."

Louise Curtis, Publishing Director for Elsevier's Engineering journals said, "This is an exciting opportunity for us to work with the Institution of Structural Engineers, a leading society in the field, to bridge the knowledge translation gap between academia and industry, with the support of an innovative journal format."

Structures will publish its first papers in January 2015 and for the first year all papers will be made freely available online on ScienceDirect.
