Russia's Far Eastern Federal district has grown to become a key social and political focus for the Russian Government. Since the APEC Summit held in September of this year, a Ministry for Far Eastern Affairs has been founded and the region is designated to become Russia's growing economic, commercial and research hub in Asia Pacific. As the largest university in the region, FEFU plays a key role in this development plan and has established the Far Eastern Consortium, a consortium of more than 50 regional universities and academic institutes.
